Buying Art supplies in Delhi

Hello,
New to this (really cool) site! I am planning a trip next month with my kid. We will be in Delhi one day only and need to buy some decent art supplies for her before moving on. Given the time constraint I won't have much time to shop around.

Are there any art shops in/around city center? We will probably be staying @Paharganj or nearby.

What sort of art supplies are you thinking about? Paper? Pencils? Brushes? Oils?

Found this on Google:

And there's an old thread here:
art supplies...?

I'd bet that there would be art supplies in the areas around JNU and other universities offering art education. That said, to the extent possible you should probably bring your own stuff...

Rodeo in the GK1 M-block market has an art supply section - I know they have brushes, watercolor tubes, oils, sketching pencils, pastels, and a variety of sketch books. I want to say I saw acrylics and canvas there too [these were stretched canvas in a vareity of sizes]- art supplies are at the back of the store on the left side and canvasses were in the back on the right. The store is a houseware/gift/decor store mainly so the variety isn't huge but they definitely had the basics.

When I need art supplies at Delhi, I go to Bharat Pustak Bhandar at 4733, Main Bazaar, Pahar Ganj.
Their phone number as of this year (2009) is 23583695.

While their shop is small, and their selection is limited, I've found the materials they do have to be of excellent quality and very cheap.

While I'm sure that other members will be able to suggest better stocked venues, if you happen to be in the bazaar at Pahar Ghanj do look in at Bharat Bhandar. Also, I'd suggest asking for what you want if you don't see it, as some of their inventory is stored on site but not displayed.

It would help if I gave the right name for the store .

It's Rio Grande. No idea where I got Rodeo from - we were there yesterday on a quest for stuff. They definitely have stretched canvases. I saw some paints in plastic bottles but the power was out and I didn't get a chance to dig thru them to see if they were acrylics.

GK1 is in South Delhi, ummm sort of near Nehru Place [maybe some Delhites can help with better directions - I've been here a couple of months and don't have the best sense of direction - but if you plan to visit the Lotus Temple, it is somewhat close to that].

You want M market [there is also an N block market in GK1 and even my Indian significant other has had to clear up with a rickshaw driver which market we want].

A lot of the shops in the market are closed on Tuesdays too - I'd recommend any day but Tuesday!

Thanks much, bethey and trvl_in! The leads on this great forum will make our search manageable! I am a native son but time has dulled the neurons; I should at least have remembered that many good stationary stores and bookstores also carry art materials.
