Buy/borrow bicycle in Delhi

Hello everybody,

I'm staying in Delhi until the end of July to some development research for a NGO. Every day I have to travel 2x 7 km. Walking is not an option, I can't rely on the bus and taking a riksja will cost me at least 70 rupees/ day.

The Indian traffic is very chaotic, but I like living on the edge

My question: does somebody know a place where I can get a cheap bike ( <2500 rupees) or a person who's bike I can borrow?

Please let me know!

I stay in the K-block in Kalkaji. I noticed there are a lot of shops (yellowpages).

You say 2500 is a good budget. How much is a cheap bike?

tnx

Hi, I bought a brand new Indian bicycle brand AVON in Lucknow in January for 1850 Rs. The same should not be too hard in Delhi. Unfortunately I can't tell you where cycle shops re located. Happy cycling!

all this apart i would like to add it's not a very safe option at all....you will be the lowest form (as spices go) go on the road and prone to abuses, getting pushed around , even by autorickshaw guys..which is saying something...

Where are u planning on staying and where is the office?

Thanks for the prices and information. Like I said, I stay in Kalkaji K-block. My office is in The Asian Games Village near the Siri Fort.

Probably I can buy an old bike of my neightbours for less then 1000 rupees. It's a decent bike, so that's ok!

I know it is definately not the safest way of transport, but I'm dutch and I like to cycle ;-) I will avoid the busy roads and watch my back.

Thank your for your replies!
