Hare Krishna, Anoop and Ajay belong to the same group. Rooms are OK, since HK & Anoop are on main street, there will be noise.. Rooms are OK.... In Paharganj you can't expect much......

Thanks for that info, Delhiwala - do you know of another place you would recommend that's close to that price range but maybe quieter? I haven't made any reservations yet (seems like they won't even do that until about a week before your arrival -- they must get a lot of 'no shows' -)

hi
I'm going to stay in Delhi one day or two (since oct 1) before leaving to Derahdun in the early morning.
Can you suggest me any hotel? I'd like to stay quite near the train station but possibily (if it is possible) in a quiet place, not too much crowded because it's my first time in India and I'm afraid to get frightened
thank you

Ginger Hotel will be fine for you as it is set away from the throngs of people. It's cheap, clean, modern and right next to New Delhi Railway Station, if that's the one you want.
You can easily get a rickshaw from outside the station to a restaurant of your choice as the hotel's restaurant isn't up to much, more of a cafeteria really.

Sorry, I didn't look at which date you'd be there. It's quite close and the Ginger does get booked up as it's good value for money.

Ginger does book up quite fast-

I like The Roxy -it's in Pahar Ganj which isn't exactly Beverly Hills but I like the chaos cluster of people cows and dogs-

Roxy has a nice owner the rooms were around 12 a day- the greatest but I have seen far worse.

Anywhere in Delhi is pretty noisy- and you'll probably be in the middle of culture shock- relax

I tried to book Ginger Hotel but always full. The hotel replied that booking for my travel date (mid-Nov) is not yet opened. Any other methods to book Ginger? Ginger really fits our budget.

You can write them a letter - they will hold a room for you, if available, but you will need to send them the room charge. If you click on the top right hand corner of the dates thing it should open to November. I remember I had trouble with this at the time.

I recently had a talk with the call center (1800 number that flashes on the home page), and wanted to know booking status in Dec 1st week. The agent told me that they allow advance booking only if you plan to book say about 3-4 weeks in advance. Also, the tariff is going to change w.e.f 1-Nov-09 and therefore the website (or the agents) is not allowing any booking beyond that. I have been told to check with them around Nov'09 week 1.

Please update if you get to book or have any other info.

Nirvana Hostel, Delhi

Hi folks,

I was wondering, has anyone stayed at this hostel and what was it like? My boyfriend and I will be staying there for at least one night towards the end of November and I've been trying to read reviews (that aren't on hostel websites) for the place, but have had little luck.

I see from google maps that the hostel is quite far south of the Paharganj and Karol Bagh areas, is that such a bad thing? Will we be missing out on any 'vital' Delhi experiences by not staying in those locations?

This is our first trip to India, and our first stop. Knowing little about what's hot and what's not, your advice on our choice of accommodation and the location would be apprecieated.

Cheers

We recently stayed in Hotel USA in karol bagh and this hotel is excellent and cheap. We paid 750 rs + tax for a standard double room. They requested us to visit the room and then they quoted 1000 rs. We bargained and they finally agreed for 750 + tax. Ram krishnan marg metro station is just 0.5 km and also near to new delhi railway station.they charge 300 to drop u at the airport.

Thanks for the info. We haven't booked anymore than one night in the Nirvana hostel, so if it doesn't suit us there, we'll check out Hotel USA as it is much closer to the 'backpacker's grapevine', or so I hear.

Thanks again.

Hi All, I am new to this forum but need find good places to stay near Delhi (NDLS) station, we have an early train the next morning so it would be handy. I appreciate that you might not be able to name the places etc, but let me know where the better accommodation can be found on a budget of around 500rs?

May look at Hotel Star Palace, it's situated in a lane opposite Reebok Showroom in Main Bazar, Paharganj....
