That's correct - and if you don't think blankets are enough, you can always ask for more. I have many times stayed in Delhi in December and not found it too cold (mind you I'm from the South Island of New Zealand and don't feel the cold that much!!) Early December is certainly warmer than late December too, in fact really pleasant.

My only concern was about her, but on the 2nd thought - she would be back from Shimla/Sarahan at that time (which would obviously be colder than DEL), so she should be fine I hope! And do you suggest booking in advance? Sorry if I'm bugging people too much, but I get sceptic when I think that I'll have my kid along, who hasn't yet started comunicating properly ! Hope you all understand....

Definitely book in advance for Ginger - I booked a week ahead, and the very next day there were no standard rooms available. A standard room is more than adequate - has everything. It is a very busy place. Your 'she-who-must-be-obeyed' will find Delhi warm compared to Shimla, Indracal!

I've stayed in "Ginger" several times in the past, when it used to be the good old Rail Yatri Niwas! Honestly, I have nothing against the new management, but I just don't like the location of the Ginger Hotel. I'd like to avoid New Delhi station premises as well as Paharganj. Then it becomes tricky to find a sub-1000 hotel in central Delhi on the Metro route.

I was in a Paharganj hotel in December and the blanket was nice and plush -- I was 'way warm enough! Marble floors were cold, but otherwise I was very comfortable... depends on what sort of a winter Delhi is having, of course.

Hi friends
I checked room availability in the 'Ginger Hotel' for the first week of November, and all the rooms are showing as unavailable. Wow, must be really popular! Surely, someone knows a good and reasonable quiet hotel for less than 1000 Rupees {for two people}!! I've been searching for weeks now, on IM and also googling away madly... Also, has anyone else noticed some suspicious hotel reviews on IM? Here's one: http://www.indiamike.com/india-hotel...-centre-h4257/ There's 2 great reviews, but if you look at the profile of one of them, he's only posted this one time, and closed his account. The other guy has also only this one post and not used his account since...hmmmm. The hotel & lodging section is in my view the only dissappointing thing about the otherwise wonderful IM. {Maybe we don't like sharing our fave hotels, cause then they'd be overrun by travelers...hehehe} |

There is a 'work in progress' for sorting out these reviews. I agree with your comments Shivani and will point your post to Nadreg. You can also send your comments to him via the Contact Us link at base of page.
Re Ginger Hotel location - yes, it's not great but it's also very handy to rickshaws and taxis and there is quite a large area around it that is not crowdy or annoying. Once inside it wouldn't matter where it was located - it is fine. Most Paharganj hotels are not in a great location either, and many Karol Bagh ones too. But this doesn't matter - it's how the hotel is, that does. I found inside the room was very quiet - and I was unaware up on the 5th floor of anything outside. |

BTW when I tried to go to the Hotel Ananda (Carol Bagh) website, google showed some malware, and later my firewall detected one too, so beware! I didn't give the link intentionally, but it shows some good recent reviews in Tripadvisor, not sure if they are genuine. |

Indracal, thanks, I already checked your link the other day, and also got that malware warning!!
Aishah, good to hear that there's a clean up in process. I have written to the administrators using the 'contact us'link three days ago. Don't know if they had time to read my message...that's why I posted it here too. So, the search goes on for a hotel room less than 1000 rupees for 2 people...!! |

And if you write they can reserve your room and it can be paid by depositting money into their bank account at any Axis bank.

Thank you Ribu and Aishah. I'll try that, cause their hotel really does seem like great value and good location. I'll see if they accept credit card payment too, from Australia.

I am trying to make reservations at the Anoop, and the staff is prompt at returning emails, but it seems they don't want to make a reservation as 'far away' as September 29th; they give me the message, "please tell me one week before for journey date" -- and even when I reiterated my arrival date and time, they sent that same message again; has anyone else encountered this? Do they just have enough rooms that there's no problem ever getting in? (And if you have stayed there, I'd be interested in your 'review' of it -- the ones I've seen are pretty mixed!) - Thanks for any replies. |
