Budget with a/c in (Old) Delhi?

Hello

How much would I have to pay for a decent budget double with a/c in Delhi, and does anyone has a recommendation, preferrably in Old Delhi or close-by since we will spend a lot of time in the bazaars there.

Arriving in Delhi on tuesday.

Thanks!

I don't know if you'd consider these budget, but they are quality. This fall we'll be staying in two places, each for 8 or 9 days:
Hotel Broadway http://www.hotelbroadwaydelhi.com/ (They've updated their webpage. It looks very nice). This will be our third time in the place. It's located along Asaf Ali Road near Delhi Gate. Their larger rooms are very nice and they were improving the smaller, windowless rooms when we were there. This what they wrote to us:
> The rates for the Single room is Rs 2095/ +12.5% L tax Double room > St > > Rs 3795 +12.5%and supriour Dbl Is Rs 4495/+12.5% Tax Extra Bed Rs
> 1095/- + 12.5 %. Luxury tax (tax apply all the rooms)
The breakfast shall be complimentary.
We are open 24Hrs.
We accept all the credit card visa/Master.
We also provide airport- pick up and the for this cost will be Rs750/-
per a/c cab extra . Exact flight details are however required for the
same
Mode of payment is before check-in at the reception counter.

The other place we'll be staying is Nina Kochhar's beautiful homestay. http://delhibedbreakfast.com/ It is in the Civil Lines. We've never been there but looking at the site and from our emails with her, we can tell it is going to be a great place to stay. I mean, just look at her site and you might want to budget for it.

Thank you, seems really great, but no, that's not what I consider budget. Rates have to be a lot lower. Preferably below 500 and definitely below 1000 per night.
Ideas, anyone?

Paharganj is where you need to go for really budget rates, plenty of places there. Do a search within the forum - others have recommended hotels in Paharganj.

I'd recommend Ginger Hotel near the New Delhi Railway Station.
It's very close to Pahargunj, but huge difference in the quality of rooms. I'd stayed there a few months ago. Very neat simple no-frills hotel. Clean AC rooms. They charge Rs1000 per day.

For cheaper rates, Paharganj is the place. Some of my friends got a room for Rs400 a day [non-AC], but the place was very shady, unclean and hot. Good if you just want a place to sleep and will be travelling all day.

Ginger hotels has a website - http://www.gingerhotels.com/delhi/tariff.aspx

These low-price hotels in Paharganj have AC-Rooms:

I am pretty sure they would be below Rs 1000 for an AC.

DLI is Old Delhi station. Paharganj is not too far away for you to stay - would take around 30 - 40 mins. depending on the traffic. I know of nothing that is right near the station itself - would be good if some members can help out if there is something there. Tara Palace Hotel is in Old Delhi area but you would still have to take an autorickshaw to the station.

If you start walking from Old Delhi = DLI station towards Fatehpuri mosque there are a whole lot of budget hotels to stay in the vicinity. Its walking distance from the station, or you can ride a rickshaw or an autorickshaw.

We will be staying in Delhi for less than 24 hrs between arriving and departing on a domestic flight. So we need to stay overnight in a place with good airport access. Also important is not more than 3000 rps per dbl rm. Preferably less. A nice b&b would be great. This is for October 2009. Anyone have any suggestions? Has anyone heard of Green Villa?

The Mahipalpur area has some hotels - its very close to the airport. The Ashoka Palace hotel near Westend may have rooms in the INR 3000 range.
