You should see other hotels in that price range..... for eg. White Star or White Palace which are just next to Royal Lodge.
Room Size if definitely small, but it's cleaner than other nearby hotels....

I had the room next to the reception desk; it was much larger than you indicate. Room enough for a small loveseat and space to walk around! It was a little noisy, because Bishan, the desk fellow, always had friends around and the TV was always on -- but I didn't lose any sleep. The map is not the territory. --Alfred Korzybski

Hi friends,
I see there's a lot of talk about the hotels near Pahadganj (quite justifiable because that where the tourists prefer to stay owing to its proximity with Railway statio as well as markets).
Also, I am sorry if I missed something in this thread somewhere midway coz hnestly speaking I havn't followed this as its a long one. Still, there are people who need to stay at other parts of the city. It would be great if somebody would like to suggest some budget hotels in south Delhi.
Thanks in advance,
Cheers!!

Roushan, I think you just volunteered. More seriously, backpacker budget hotels in South Delhi are scarce apart from some more or less close to the airport. I used one such overnight in 2007.There have been some budget or rather mid range hotels in the south occasionally mentioned in IM but you would need to make some searches of the posts/threads. South Delhi accommodation seems to cater to business and government travellers.

Are you in IIT Delhi?Perhaps you know of budget hotels in the area. I heard there are some near Saket, and several on Africa Avenue near Safdarjung Enclave, but I don't know the websites or rates.

Several years ago (2003, and 3 periods in 2006). Very different room quality, from almost luxurious large room with three beds, to a small but not cramped room with two separate beds to a room with almost no place around the largish bed and Indian type toilet across the corridor.Always very friendly and helpful front desk, finding fairly honest deals for riksha guys, airport transfer etc. Close to the railway and to Old Delhi.
The travel desk assembled nice but unnecessarily expensive packages. I suppose you can get good deals if you insist on a tighter budget.
Not too extensive menu, but OK breakfast (and I'm picky) and meals. Internet. I think the restaurant now has a roof-top annex.
Summary: I'm open to change (so I'm reading this thread), but might very well try them again.

Roushan, I have spent an hour plus today with Tripadvisor using it to locate budget hotels in South Delhi. Tripadvisor's map seems useful when you start with hotels price sorted cheapest to dearest. You can move the map to select the part of the city you wish to search in and then the hotels are flagged within that map. I think you will find some places to recommend.Warning: From traveller reports and my own very limited experience, two occasions, hotels near the airport trade on their convenient location and can be seriously substandard regardless of room rate.
As Tripadvisor is mainly an accommodation finder, unlike Indiamike, it lists many more hotels, over 500 in Delhi. Overall Tripadvisor traveller reports are mostly recent which is not so for Indiamike.

South Delhi budget accommodation? Yet again I mention the YHA International in Chanyakapuri - good value, nice location and they have an online booking website as well.
Every cloud has a silver lining!
