I had to look it up, but I take it Palam is either the former name of Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport, or the name of its domestic terminal?

I have no answer, but thought it might help others to know this to answer you, I don't think that name is widely known. I'm sure the question will have been brought up here before, so you could search around for it in the meantime (I'd try +hotel +airport +delhi or something), or check the Hotels section.

Palam would have meant both domestic and international awhile ago.

Sorry, there are no hotels within walking distance of the airport. Dunno if Delhi airport has retiring rooms, do search the forum.

Closest place for budget hotels may be Mahipalpur, but thats a five/seven minute drive.

In any case, wondering.. if you exit the international airport by 1am and have to check in at 5.30 or 6, that does not leave you a lot of sleep time if you have to make it to and back from a hotel.

Thanks Capt - well My flight lands in Delhi at 12 midnight (domestic) and the connecting flight to Srinagar starts at 8am ( I belive there is a 3 hour prior check in now at Delhi) so that brings it to 5 am....guess you are right need to sleep in the Airport itself or spend the night there.

Palam is actually the name of Delhi's domestic airport, named after the Palam village - the site where the airport first came up. Anyone who knows Delhi knows the name Palam very well.
Now more terminals are coming up, as the airport is undergoing expansion.

The nearest budget hotels would be in Mahipalpur. At that time of day it would hardly take five minutes by an auto or a taxi.
And you dont have to report 3 hours prior for a domestic flight,2 hours would be more than enough.

Dimitrz

If budget isnt an issue, there is Centaur hotel which is about 1-2 kms from the Airport.

Prices are steep though and may not make sense to book for 5 hours

There are many budget hotels in a nearby area, Mahipalpur. Very near to the airport both international and domestic, around 15 to 20 minutes travel time..

Just ask the taxi guy to take you to the Mahipalpur hotels. There are so many hotels there that you will have a difficulty in choosing.
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I--
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference

Long years ago, (when we made a tryst with destiny ), Palam was both the international and domestic airport. Remember as a child, though can't recall if there were separate terminals.

I remember the times when the entire area around the airport used to be a jungle. If the flight would land at night, we would prefer to wait till dawn to take a taxi.

Now the entire area has undergone massive urbanisation
