Delhi friends took us to eat at the restaurant at the hotel, Chor Bizarre, which I suspect everyone knows. I think the restaurant is more upscale than the hotel.
My old LP describes Hotel Broadway as classy - I don't think that description fits what I saw. The tiny lobby was quite gloomy and the rooms shown in the photos on the walls hardly fit the LP description. Several backpackers arrived while we were waiting in the lobby and they seemed happy enough to be there. The evening desk clerk was rather brusque in dealing with some returning residents, but who knows what their history may have been. I suspect others here will have more to say soon. distaff half of hfot2 Check this link if you haven't already: http://www.indiamike.com/reviews/sho...ct/770/cat/all Last edited by hfot2 : Jul 1st, 2007 at 03:05. I've stayed at the Broadway. It is a bit weathered, it needs renovation. The carpets are brown and that is probably not the original color. The price of around Rs. 2500 for a single is high for what you get, but it keeps out the riffraff. We found it to be clean, and the location is great. There's not much in the immediate area except for the weird restaurant in the hotel, but it's only about a 20-min walk to Jama Masjid through narrow streets past jalebis being fried. We were happy to be near the walled city and not in Connaught Place, Paharganj, etc.

Well said RPG. It's not "classy" but clean and in a cool location. I would stay there again, but not as my first choice.

Broadway & Ajanta
We're staying at the Broadway for our week in Delhi. We went to the pub there last year and found it nice. Yes, the lobby was gloomy but that was not a prob. The clerk was friendly. We set up the "food tour" of Old Delhi we read about in LP but on the day of the tour the guide "broke his leg" and wouldn't be able to do guide us.
I'm not laughing at human misery but at what a phoney excuse it was. However, if he had actually broken his leg, I hope he had a speedy recovery. This year, we chose Broadway because of its location to Old Delhi, which will be our focus for the week.As for the rooms, which we haven't seen yet, many places could be better than the Ajanta, where we stayed last year. At the Ajanta, one room was overpowered by mold (John said all rooms would be like that, but it wasn't). Our second room had no windows but there was an inch high space at bottom of balcony door (out on the balcony was nothing but broken junk from rooms). Our third room was Ajanta's "luxury room" with two queen sized beds. This room was nicer than the others but one bed was soaked from the AC. However, the Ajanta staff was very nice. We're trying to decide on where to stay when we return to Delhi from Rajasthan.... I'll search Indiamike before I ask any advice. |

2500 for a single in Broadway
: and all the full description of Ajanta's rooms.... , I choose to stay again in Relax Hotel or still better in Cottage Yes Please (the lobby is not gloomy at all), of course! is Paharganj, an added value for me.To walk from Paharganj to Old Delhi is not a hard work, have a look at this thread: "From Paharganj to Old Delhi" From Paharganj to Old Delhi Jorge |

I recently had a couple of nights in the FIfty Five near Conaught Place. It's only 1800 for a single but immaculate rooms. They've just been re painted so very clean. Simple clean rooms and not noisy at all. It's ideal if you have an early morning train trip (only five mins away) and cloce to restaurants and shops. Of course you haven't got Old Delhi on your doorstep but for a single woman traveller it's well located, and very helpful staff.

I stand by my full descriptions of Ajanta's rooms. I wouldn't stay there again. And we're probably going to stay somewhere else besides Paharganj.
And we have thought about Fifty Five. It's already on our short list for the last two nights. Thanks for the unexpected boost in its rating. |

Broadway? It's linked to in the review above. http://www.oldworldhospitality.com/
Ajanta is here http://www.hotelajanta.com/ and 55 is here http://www.hotel55.com/ . Google is sometimes your friend (This took me less than a minute. And always assuming those are the intended places, popular hotel names have a way of going around.)

the one I wanted was the hotel 55 - the 'hotel de charme' of Delhi to quote their website! (loving it already!) - Sorry and thanks, lazy me.. but sometimes I find google too distracting I start clicking on links here and there and before you know it I'm not working again!

TripAdvisor ranks the Broadway 15th best of 162 Delhi hotels:
http://www.tripadvisor.com/HACSearch...23&showall=yes When you scroll down to the Broadway, click on the hotel's name. You'll be taken to a number of reviews by other travelers. (Based on those reviews I myself have made reservations at the Broadway for this coming October -- having enjoyed a fine tandoori meal at the Chor Bizarre a couple of years ago.) |
