There are a few good bookshops at Connaught Place. I recommend "English Book Store", afraid I do not remember its address! Will get back if I can ferret it out somehow.

Bookworm is a good shop. Dont forget to ask for a discount they usually knock 10% off if asked.

Here is another nice bookshop in New Delhi. This one is in Janpath almost directly across the street from the Saravana Bhavan South Indian Restaurant (which is BTW great eats). It has a lot of really nice gift picture books and many books on India.
I found the buisness card I got from the owner (I took pictures of bookshops I visited and saw on the last trip). This is a pic of the shop owner, and the storefront. I'm strange, I take photos of bookshops ![]() Paramount Book Store 88, M.M. Janpath, New Delhi- 11001 tel: 3321948 |

I personally find Khan Market to be the best place to shop for books. The market is small and has around 5 good quality book shops. So the probability of finding the book you want is high. Secondly you get to browse through most of the books in the market without having to walk/drive long distances from one bookstore to another.
Some good ones are: The Book Shop Full Circle Fakirchand & Sons

When you land in Delhi snatch a copy of the Delhi Map (free). There are a few stands giving out them just after the baggage collection point.
A large number of bookshops can be located with ease. Many bookshops advertise in the map explaining their specialties (Like Architecture, Art, Technical books etc) Find out the locations, which are closer to you. Delhi is HUGE, highly recommended to find a bookshop location close to you, if you don’t wish to travel a lot. What about the pirated book wallahs at the footpath ![]()

In South Delhi is Prabhus Book Service still around? They were remarkable for specialist material and sold me a ton of priceless research material..

William Dalrymple, Harry Potter set of hardbacks, and Recently a very good book on Indian birds!! Less daunting than Bookworm as well, as in not quite so many books to delve through! |

I get the impression that the recommendations are all for books in English on matters mostly English. What about dictionaries to/from Hindi/Urdu, especially for medicine, chemistry and general technology, and language learning material? I've visited the Motilal Banarsidass shop, and the Munshiram Manoharlal outlet in Old Delhi, but they were more into Indology, so I just bought some 50 lbs. of books from them. I need more!
