The standard of food at The Chinese has nose dived.
Mainland China is recommended.

Zen in Connaught place is very good for Chinese food, (but a bit expensive. Expensive being relative term as for US $ 6-8 you can eat nicely here).

There is ofcourse couple of very good Chinese restaurents in Connaught Circus, (forgetting the names though....its on outer side, next to Marina Hotel)

check out yumyumtree

If you're looking for Authentic Hakka or Teochew cuisine, take a look at the yum yum tree in new friends colony. The food reminds me a lot of what I used to have it singapore, which is why I love it... especially Ribs cooked in the Hakka style, crispy pork & seaweed, squid in yellow sauce..which is something like what i had in a south china restaurant there, and the fried tofu & sesame starter..all very Hakka they have some extremely interesting stuff from all corners of china.

Strongly beg to differ unless we are talking of Punjabi Chinese. 19 Oriental Avenue in Shangrila Hotel, Taipan in Oberoi, The China Kitchen in Hyatt and Empress of China in Park hotel are far better.

Other good ones....Nanking (V. Kunj), Mainland as already mentioned, China Garden.

I think you mean China Club. Other good ones in Gurgaon are Hao Shi Nian Nian and The Monk...Dynesty is also good but veering toweards Punjabi Chinese....for some reason, I have not liked the Mainland China outlet in Gurgaon.

OT.

In colloquial English, "House of Ming" would not be a very complimentary name. Sort of equivalent to "House of Awful".

Karuna's dictionary of modern British English
Ming: to be really bad, especially in looks or smell.
It/she/he is minging
He/she/it mings
She/he is a minger.

Hence, Orange's recommendation made me giggle, childishly.

As you were...

Me too, when I realised that Orange + House of Ming = "Ginger Minger"

Apologies to any offended redheads. Sometimes, like the good Captain, I just can't resist.

On topic (gasp!) - excuse my ignorance, but I've not heard of "Hakka" Chinese restaurants here in the UK, is that a region or a type of cooking?

Well that certainly seems to be a very different style of cooking.

That article, as I read it, seems to espouse two opposing views on the authenticity of Hakka cuisine in India.

Quote:
In places such as India, and other places of Indian diaspora overseas, Hakka Cuisine is errenously known as something that bears little to no resemblence to actual traditional Hakka dishes.
This is a double negative "erronously" and "no resemblance", implying that Hakka cuisine in India DOES bear resemblence to traditional Hakka dishes.

Quote:
this style of cuisine is often falsely credited of being respresentative of Hakka Cuisine in general
Suggesting that it is NOT representative of Hakka cuisine.

Anyone care to throw any light on this?
