Bar prices Delhi

Can we all agree that there are no barmaids in Delhi and I'm going to hell?

Now that that's over with, I see absolutely NO reason why I shouldn't get my money's worth on this world called Earth since I'm condemned to livin' eternity in a hot place with nasty/horned an loosely moral'd wimmen; and the assorted gossipy/dirty minded church girl who had inadvertently/accidentaly been assigned eternal southern incarceration due to 'Gossip Above and Beyond/Second Degree" and/or 'Impure Thoughts/First Degree' or like infractions

So, if I wanted to have a party with decent drinks and decent snacks..

How much $$$ would it take to entertain friends in multiples of ten, hopefully half would be Muslims and therefore don't drink?

Middle class bar or restaurant/bar/hotel/bar, prefferably with a large outside balcony in Delhi old or new

Thank You

There use to be a farm cum estate in Delhi that anybody could rent out for an evening. The grounds were landscaped beautifully and it had a plethora of large fountains that sprayed water like those as Versailles. Ended up there for more than one party.

Anything/everything is possible in India in the hospitality industry .... if you got the dough.

Maybe mecasa is only trying to get a few motorcycle buddies pleasently drunk so that they'll shop him a good hog the next day.

mecasa. your tab shouldn't exceed two hundered USD at the max, unless you're planning to entretain more than 15 people...sometimes not even that.

Exactly, and if I rented a private place and no one showed up I'd look foolish, in a crowded place I'd just fade away till I regained my manhood

$250-$300 for twenty people or so should be OK though?

Any suggestions?

that's like 15000 rupees.

you can probably buy a load of beer with that much money...and take it with you on the roadtrip.

I'll let more current delhi visitors chime in on booze priced at paharganj too.

Cut a group rate deal with Chickster - a fellow IM'er who just opened a Bar in Vasant Vihar. Here is an invitation from another thread:

To all IMers,

After half a year with design and construction, we have finally opened a new bar venue in Delhi, Bar Code, at Priya complex Vasant Vihar. (Opp Punjabi by Nature) 5 levels, with pool, DJ and dancing, video games and air hockey, 2 bars, food, and projectors for watching sport, would love to see you all come and say Hi. I am the very tired looking Aussie guy!
Anyway, if anyone wants any more info, send me a message.

Darn, that place sounds huge

And what do most people drink, beer?
Do they have beer on tap or do they sell by bottle/can?
And what's a good food to order for snacks?

Beer is good party material in India mostly because of the lack of superlative bartending help, the price of the extras(soft dringks/juices/ice..)..and the fact that beer sort of comes in 650 ml glass bottles (or cans) , which allows a person to get his bottle and nurse it for some time.(at between 7 and 11 % ac, the beer compares to shapporo )

If you've never been to india, this is the time to get acquinted with the term Indian made foreign liquor. IMFL is available cheap(it's ethyl alciohol from sugarcane, flavored like the booze of your choice...serves its purpose tastes like heck and unfailingly gives you a kick in the head from a horse the next morning.). USed right, real scotch whiskey..or vodka can get you laid...but that's probably true in new york as well..so...

It's alright, I'll just start saving labels and bring some paste

Can you bring bottle of liquor in a bar? You can in Texas, they call it BYOB (bring your own bottle), they sell you a cup of ice and a can of mixer for $1.25, I hated it at first, but realy it's a cheap way to drink, I don't drink a lot of coke with my bourbon, coke being bad for your teeth and all

what's wrong with drinking(black label) in your room? granted it gets crowded, but most indian/ tourist drinkers are used to drinking five-ten in a room...as long as you're not throwing a bells and whistles party...or looking to do more with one of the drinkers(and even then...)

Because I'm staying in The Maidens; and they won't be happy if twenty strangers come to the desk asking for my room, someone will bitch about the noise and they'll come checkin' and I'll get the boot and a dissaproving lecture, I can find another place to stay but I hate lectures

Besides, i didn't come all the way to India to drink in my room, we want a bar with a balcony so we can howl, depending on the moon of course

Do you pre-order these or order them as you use them?

It depends on where you are going and the size of your party - wouldn't hurt to preorganize it with the restaurant/caterer - depending on the location/quality of the establishment - although Indians are pretty resourceful and will try to pull a rabbit out of a hat just to appease/feed you - the foreigner. Those are the main snacks you find at all the cocktail parties - throw in some Chicken Tikka (with toothpicks) & Veggies / dip and everyone will be happy.

MC,

if you're going to a bar, the barman/waiter(no barmaids, we're indian...or firangs in india.) will organize your chicken tikkas and lamb kabobs. it's not expensive, ..sometimes it's free depending on the bar you go to. If you're organizing something for the five people you want to share your johnnywalker black label with, in your room, the room boy will get you your lamb kabob for a tip.
