Ball gown/prom dress in Delhi
Hello,
This is perhaps more for the Delhi-ites out there. I'm looking for a real fancy dress, western style prom dress or ball gown. Ideally not a lengha or materila for stitching, or anything way OTT, as many Indian styles tend to be. I've seen some lovely fabric, but want to TRY ON, before buying to check it's right and suits me etce tc. So, Can anyone recommend a good boutique in Delhi where they have ready made ball gowns? I've searched well online, but not found anything so far that corresponds. SInce my stay will be short lived, I'd love to hear from anyon else's experience. Thank you! |

Ball gown/Prom Dress
Victoria,
I don't know of any boutique but I was recommended a place in Def Colony where the lady made me a dress but I also noticed that she had dresses on sale. The place is called Studio Pride and is in Def Col. Unfortunately do not have the phone number to hand but can get to you if interested. I think you could either buy something off the peg or for a very reasonable price (and very quick too) this lady can make you a dress to your preference.

Dear Indian worker, and Piyush,
Thanks for both of your suggestions, I will definately check them out! At the moment I can only find wholesalers who'll sell in bulk mainly for exportation, so the little shop and the market sound like good ideas!!!!!!!!!! Many thanks Victoria |

I hope I'm not too late with this, but there's a store called Chamomile in greater kailash part 1..a bit expensive, but it'll have exactly what you're looking for. It has dresses by Indian designers. Then there's the Mango store in South Extension..always a safe bet for a dress, cheaper than the Indian stores too. Or you could do a recce of the stores in Khan market..many of them will have what you're looking for. Happy shopping

Just for info if anyone else is looking for a si;ilar outfit, Studio Pride as mentioned above in great. I checked it out and the lady was lovely and very helpul. I suggest that if anyone does want a dress made to measure, ball gown or dinner party style, to go as early as possible to give time for fittings etc. I didntget chance to see Chamomile or Mango but will do for the next occassion. Thanks fr the info guys

There is a shop on Janpath near the Gov't Cottage Industries, just opposite the McDonalds and down towards Connaught Place a bit... it is a shop that sells beaded ball gowns for like 1500 rupees! They have gorgeous dresses there, I bought one for myself but still havent' had the chance to wear it...
