Delhi No Place For Pubs?
My impression from several visits to Delhi as a low budget tourist is that there are no backpacker bars of the kind you might find in Europe or my own country, Australia. There are one or two rather seedy and possibly expensive places around Connaught Place that sell booze but backpackers mostly meet in cafes over tea or coffee.
The busiest backpacker street cafes are along the western end of the Main Bazaar(street) in Pahar Ganj. These place are tiny, very friendly and very cheap. They don't seem to have any names. Just look for other backpackers. |

okay, I'm trying to keep this thread alive, so I'm basically just going to re-ask OP's question.... Any cheap bars (or restaurants with cheap booze) in Delhi that you guys liked (or didn't like)? The only bar I went to on my last trip to Delhi about 4 years ago was Blues Bar. I probably went there 3 or 4 times, and it wasn't really my cup of tea (or rum and coke
)... because I just didn't like the music much, and the drinks were expensive. I don't remember how much exactly, but I think they were comparable to American bar prices, like about rupees 150 or 200 if I remeber right. But I didn't stay in Delhi long enough to explore the scene. Well hopefully I can add to this post after some exploring of my own quite soon (I'll be leaving Houston for Delhi in about 18 days!!! YES!! ), but 'til then, anyone else got some input on the subject? |

you wont find the western style pubs and bars in Delhi...there are few like Blues, but they all would be expensive and beer would be in range of Rs.150-250 (they also have happy hours, where is 1 plus 1 free).
you can try out Volga in CP and its not very expensie...a beer would set you back by around Rs.100 including the taxes.. If you are staying in Karol Bagh or even Pahar Gang, you can come to East Patel Nagar, and Try out Metal Street, a small but efficient place... |

and if you really wanna explore Delhi..just go beyond the tourist route of Central and South Delhi...
come to west Delhi ..just board the metro from CP and head straight to Rajouri Garden, explore the market..I bet you wont see a single foreigner there...its pure, unbashadly (??) Punjabi style market..just go there and have a look at average Delhiite..not the upwardly mobile South Delhi types, or tourist infested central Delhi.. If I may say so..its the way the Delhi lives today... |

Wow! I just noticed that I never went to a plain pub in Delhi. Most of them were restaurants. Hopefully this will change in the future. I usually drank at places like Ruby Tuesdays and TGI Fridays. I guess what you can also do is pick up Time Out Delhi, which I never did but realised after my trip it does exist. You can make a check list out of it and mark off the bars you've been to.

Hi
just got back from delhi last week and didn't find many bars which you would usually find in bangkok. Most backpackers order drinks from roof top resturants round main bazaar. usually pay about 80 rupee from a large king fisher. They serve it to you in mugs cause I think this might be a dry area. Nice place to take in a drink and watch the people down below. |

and secondly..I assume that majority (shall i say more than 90%) of foreign tourist never sees Delhi out of tourist Circuit.. they simply see Central Delhi and part of south Delhi and assume that their trip is complete..but their is a lot more to Delhi..infact what people see is just a strand of Delhi.. |
