Australian Rules Football Finals in Delhi
Hi All (Especially Aussies!)
Its just about AFL final season again and I was wondering if anyone knew of somewhere in Delhi that would be showing some of the games? It'd be awesome if there was a bar somewhere in Delhi where I could kick back, have a few beers and watch (specifically) the Grand Final - but my gut feel is that I may be out of luck. I've spent the minor season streaming internet radio to listen to the games, but it'd be good to be able to watch the grand final. Any ideas? Go the Power! Pundy. |

Hmmm maybe it'll be worth checking out some of the bigger hotels around as they may have greater than the standard satellite tv packages. Pundy. |

first you need to check whether the game is being on any particular channel that has a service in India or not...

After this weekend I may not care if the Swans lose again! But most importantly the Easts Bulldogs under 13 grand final is this Sunday we play the ENORMOUSLY tall Forest under 13s..defeated only once in 4 seasons, by us!.
We're going for our 3rd premiership in a row, and our first in the greater Sydney comp... Go the Doggies!!! I wonder if the AFL could help you - have you looked at the website to see if they list international telecasts, they may at least say what cable channels are broadcasting it - like Star or whatever?????? Forget the cricket - we'll be taking a footie or two for kicking around with the local kids in India... actually, Oscar plays with Mike Whitney's son and Mike's going to give us some cricket cards and so on to take.. but I still reckon we can give the footie a go. Ocsar will give it a try anyway. |

I have seen Australian Rules football on Tv in India, but they were highlights, months old on the Aussie channel. I've seen live Rugby league football from Aussie on Star sports few months back, but no live Aussie Rules football. I should set up an Aussie pub in Delhi and Bombay which shows rugby, Aussie rules football and cricket 24/7. For all the Aussies in India, and the like minded.

So after a bit more digging it appears that AFL is broadcast on the Australia Network. On their website it mentions Television 18 India has the rebroadcast rights in India, but that is about as far as I can see. I've emailed the contact person (funny thing is that I used to work in another office in the same building as the contact person!) and hopefully I'll find something.
There also seem to be a few hints that DishTV also have rights, but I can't find any details of if they actually broadcast it - if they do I think I'll be making the Tata sky -> DishTV switch soon! If nothing else I guess I can stream the radio... Good luck with the Easts Bulldogs U13's Kristinm! ![]() |

You can stream the radio and act it out in your lounge room, or better still in a pub! That would keep you fit. I thought they streamed the vision as well as the radio call from the AFL site???
Our U13 boys are very nervous and excited as you can imagine, its going to be a tough week in all our homes I think! I almost can't bear watching the final when we're in it, apart from the tension of every touch and tackle - you waver between hoping your own kid will kick a goal or take a great mark, and hoping the ball doesn't come near him so you don't have to spend the rest of the next year hearing about how he gave away the premiership by dropping the mark or missing the goal! You try and teach them that winning isn't everything and all that - but when they train and play so hard all season it's hard to see them lose at the end - and they are competitive little buggers too! I'll let you know how it goes.... |

Got invited to watch the Melbourne Cup at the Aussie Embassy bar one year. It started about 7:00am in the morning Delhi time and the Tooeys, XXXX, & VB was already flowing freely. Had to watch your eyes & nose with the ladies twirling those funky hats in close quarters and all.
..... the moral to that story was give to the Aussie Embassy a call - you never know, you might end up at their bar to watch it live (if possible) or possibly a recent taped version. ![]()

Update...
We got hold of a person in Noida working for Television 18 (Who have the rebroadcast rights in India) who informed us that the Australia Network is available for cable networks in Delhi. The Australia Network website confirms the whole final series is to be broadcast, so now hopefully I can find a bar that has cable tv with this channel. *fingers crossed* Pundy. |

Don't know much about AFL, but hopefully the Sydney Swans win the final. You wouldn't know if the Aussie Network is broadcasting the Rugby league finals, or is that still on Star Sports?
