ATM / Pin Number Question

Last year, I traveled to Nanjing, China and WAS able to use my ATM card. However, some machines/banks required me to preface my PIN with a 00 (zero zero) or enter the PIN with a 00 at the end. Basically, a six digit PIN was required. U.S. banks only require a 4 digit PIN.

Can anyone tell me if there is a similar PIN requirement for bank/machines in India that I found in China? Or will we just be able to use our U.S. assigned PIN?

Thank you.

I have an Indian atm card; to the best of my knowledge a 4 digit pin is required; I don't think most machines accept a 6 digit pin.

Italian ATM cards have 5 digit PIN and worked fine (provided that Cirrus is available)
