Arriving in Delhi

Been to India alot, but haven't had to deal with arriving in Delhi at 1:00am before. Is it feasible to get a prepaid taxi to Phaharganj (near train sta.) and just hoof it to look for a place for the night? What kind of extra ca$h needs to be let out to arrange a pickup from a particular lodge?

Maybe I should just take a nap at the airport and wait until it gets light and go into town then?

You might not want to be waking up clerks to look at rooms in hotels that you haven't used before; there could be some hard feelings if you wake them and then don't stay there.

So, you can reserve a hotel and pickup; there are about 100 threads about such things here. Or you can wait until around 5am when the Retired Servicemen's Bus heads for Paharganj and Connaught Place (not much farther from the N Delhi station), and then start waking people.

Last time I was in that situation, I booked transportation and a room from Namaste India and it went very well.

i would book a room with a collect at the airport save any hassels and read the other threads about scams from the airport...only go to your hotel

Different type of question, but related to arriving in Delhi. Are there ATM machines available inside the terminal on arrival? We've arranged a pickup with our hotel, but would just like to get some cash in my pocket before we head into the city. If ATMs are available I'll do that, otherwise I guess bringing some AUS$ and exchanging over the counter would be the next best bet?
