arriving Delhi at night..Suggestions please

Hi,

My wife and I are arriving in Delhi airport at about 11.30pm and we want to go to hotel (with budget of 500 to 1000rs). We want to take the sight seeing tour next day and then go to Delhi (not new delhi) railway station in the evening to take train to Kalka.

Can you please suggest
1) The hotel and the area where I can stay so that it is nearer to delhi train station and where I can take the sight seeing tour.

2) How to reach the hotel from domestic terminal in the night? I don't know much about Delhi.

Thanks in advance for your help.
Regards,
Ravi

Your second question.. take a prepaid taxi.

Browse this forum. A lot of information on Delhi airport, taxis and radio taxis too, out here- as well as the hotel section, for hotels.

Paharganj/KarolBagh area is something you can look at then i guess given your budget and desire to be close to the station..

Pre paid taxi from the airport...

Check out also the Delhi threads listed at the bottom of the page - much relevant information in some of them.

Ravi requires a hotel near Old Delhi railway station. A special request, seems to me.

Well Paharganj is 3 Km's away.....the other place could Be Daryanganj i guess, which would reduce it down to about 2 Km's.. not aware of any place right on top of ODRS.

The locality around Old Delhi station is not very pleasant rather explore Pahergunge.

You can stay at one of the Tibetan guest houses in Majnu ka tilla, an area not too far from Delhi main station.

This is almost 6 Km's away...double the distance...Paharganj is far closer.

Paharganj is closer, Karol Bagh is not too far away either. The thing is in the evening time you must allow plenty of time to get to the Station because it is very congested in the roads nearby. If staying say in Karol Bagh, allow at least one hour.

That is what I remembered too, the endless congestion in the evening. Strange that there are no hotels closer to Old Delhi station. I never went there to check that out, so know nothing about it. I would choose a train that does not leave from Old Delhi. Maybe too late for you, Ravi, but others who read this could be warned.

Thanks for your suggestions.

I booked in Anoop hotel in Pahargunj and they will send some one to pick up from the airport. I hope this is the correction option.

What do you think?

My next question: can you please suggest the good Delhi sight seeing tour?

Thanks,
Ravi

Sometimes you have no choice, Atala. I travel the Mandore Express quite a bit and whilst it stops at Delhi Cantt (have caught it there sometimes and it's easier) it's too early when it's coming into Delhi. But the early morning time is fine, around Old Delhi station area.
As for hotels - I think it would be a horrid area to stay, excessive pollution and noise. Other areas in Delhi are much nicer.

cross posted with OP - I have heard Anoop is fine Ravi.
