Anything budget in Connaught Place Area?
I'm looking for a good budget place to stay close to Connaught place. I'm ok with Paharganj if need be to keep costs down a bit (I've also heard this is a better place to meet other travellers)but I've read that Connaught Lane is nicer and a few Delhi-ites I've met seemed pretty put off by the thought of staying in Paharganj.
I've emailed Ringo 17Scindia House Connaught Lane ringo_guest_house@yahoo.co.in and they quoted me 550rs with Breakfast and an attached bathroom with pick up for 600rs. I arrive at 5am so it sounds good to me - just wondering if I have any other options. For Paharaganj the choices I'm looking at are: Hare Krishna 1572-3 Main Bazaar or Anoop Guest House right next door - is one better than the other? any other options that you can recommend? |

Ringo's offering airport pickups now? That is great news!
I've been staying at Ringo's for years; it's clean, the people who work there are nice, and it's very close to everything. Another establishment owned by the same people (unless something has changed) is Sonny's Guest House, just down the street. |

Hotel Star paradise in Paharganj has quoted me 400 per night en suite with airport pick up at 0330 for 450. Don't know anymore about them but it looks fairly newish on the web. And they answer e-mails promptly. Doesn't really matter I suppose it's only for a couple of nights!

Is that for an AC car? A non-AC car should not be more than Rs 220 from/to Paharganj. But the convenience of an airport pick-up maybe worth the surcharge, because prepaid taxis won't find the hotel.

I'm not sure about the car. When the hotel offered the service I took it.
Landing in the middle of the night after such a long journey I thought it would be worthwhile to pay just over £5 to get to the hotel asap and not worry about anything. |

in connaught place, i would recommend Hotel 55. it's clean and service is good.
paharganj is cheaper and where the action is but i stayed at probably 6 hotels there and all were dumps. they know tourists will come there anyway and they don't bother providing service or hygiene. |

I agree with Julesa - when I first came to Delhi, I stayed with a family but that was for a long term in Delhi purpose, after I met Mr K he knew some people with a hotel in Paharganj and we stayed there. I thought it was awful and the bathroom appalling.. We never stay there now, since I have found some nicer places but more pricey. We have just had people here who stayed at Namaskar - said it was shocking and terrible to go there on their first arrival in India. I have heard some people say Anoop is o.k. Ringo looks horrible from the outside but if as wonderwomanusa says it is clean, may be good inside. It is certainly in a very central area of Connaught Place - close to my favourite Cafe there, Oxford Book Store! Also close to Barista's and Coffe Cafe Day if you like good coffee.
Other friends of mine have stayed at Hotel 55 and say it's good too.

Last night a friend of mine enquired rates for Hotel 55 and was quoted, 2,500 rupees, so it is not really Budget class! A guest from here tried to book Ringo on my recommendation via wonderwoman but it was full - he is staying in Sunny Guest House instead and will email me as to how it is. He's going to be there 3 days, and said would also check out Ringo, so if both seem good, will let you know.

yes please let me know too about Ringo's
some years ago i stayed in Hotel 55 {6 years ago} and the prices were quite good , as far as i remember around 600 rupees but some of the rooms were not something special, in fact i stayed in one like a cell and the whole atmosphere was like being in a lunatic's asylum literally .Only the view at the balcony was nice but i do not know the current situation.Anyway please inform me about Ringo's , i'd like to try it too.

If you can can spend that much as good as Rs. 6000/- than Sunder Nagar can be a better choice, very close to the city centre and located at one of the most posh localities in Delhi. It is hardly few meters away from India Gate, 10 minutes walk. There is one Guest House named Maharani Guest House, would cost you around Rs. 4000/-

found this review on them... this is quite frankly the worst hotel i have ever stayed in! the rooms are tiny and nothing like the pictures shown on their website which i highly misleading. Paint was flaking from the walls, the room was dark (with no window), damp and smelly. The bed linin was dirty, looked unwashed and had holes in. Even worse than this was the constant stream of cockroaches and other insects that inhabited the room with me. I have spent over 4 weeks in india, travelling extensively, and this was the worst experience of my entire trip. inspite of sleeping under a mosquito net i recieved 24 insect bites in just one night staying at this hotel. before this night I had not recieved a single bite. I would avoid this hotel at all costs, there is much nicer and equally inexpensive accomodation located nearby ... make sure you shop around! http://www.thebackpacker.net/travelh...lhostels.ht m more reviews: http://www.hostelbookers.com/hostels.../6634/reviews/
