Hi there - my first post at IndiaMike! We arrive on the 15th July (07) and I'm so excited to be making my second trip to India.
Anyway, I want to buy a simple computer for a friend of mine who has just started university in Delhi - she won't be doing much other than e-mailing, net-surfing, doing research and writing reports on it so it doesn't need much in terms of memory and RAM. I was hoping to get a printer to go with it. I also want to buy a bus-powered external hard drive for myself to store my digital images to. I did do a search here but it seems most of the posts I found were dated 2004/5 or so... so can anyone recommend a good computer shop in Delhi for 2007? Cheers Martine |

Welcome to IndiaMike Martine.
Head to Nehru Place (any taxi will know it well) in South Delhi for the best selection, comparisons and choice of Computers, peripherals & associated accessories.

Nehru Place is the place to be...in India branded computers are not very popular, specially with end users..
Go to Nehru place, I can recommend a shop, as we have been buying out stuff from them for 7 years now..go there..give my reference and even though rates might not be very different from other market shows but the treatment would be.. They will assemble a computer there and then for you..even though there is no limit on the money you can spend on a machine, however you can get a decent one for Rs.15,000-20,000 (US $ 400-500).. |

Choose a good quality power supply(SMPS) for your computer that is one component which is the most vulnerable.

Dont worry about any specific shop, you just need to be careful while buying any stuff in Nehru Place, Just ask 2-3 shops before you buy..

Will give you the same very soon, for rough reference : Accumen Computers Upper Ground Floor, Opposite Sona Sweets. Near Challenger Computers (Samsung Dealer) And please don't expect big showrooms there...there very small shops..which sell all the components and assemble on request.. |

Mod Note: Hello Prakash and welcome to IM. We do ask our Members not to use text SMS language - the reason being that members are from all over the world and English is the common language used here for this reason. Not everyone understands SMS.
Not in SMS your post would read like this: Hi Shashank. This is Prakash from Gzb. I want to buy a PC at an affordable price. Can you help me out... So Prakash, we would appreciate your helping us out if you can write this way!

No Prakash, I cannot help you. I am not a dealer. I can only guide you to a reliable shop, with whom we have been dealing for almost a decade.
And the details are mentioned above in this thread. |

Personally i dont really trust these 'guys with their small shops' at Nehru Place.Piracy is at high tide at the moment, you never know what you gonna get. So think twice to go to one of these 'small shops.' You can always visit the branded stores (eg: Lenovo Store,Acer Store,Toshiba Store).Even these mnc's hace branches in Nehru Place and even here you can bargain as well.Give it a try,you never know!
