any airport bus to PAHARGANJ?
Have heard so many terrible storied about first time in india, esp. at airport. I will be there 13 Jan. it is pity i couldn't get a Lonely planet now. I am so worrid about how could I get to PAHARGANJ?
1) any airpot shuttle bus or public bus for there? how much the fare and how far and how long it will take? 2) if I couldn't catch those bus, how much it costs by taking a taxi? 3)Is PAHARGANJ a district like THAMEL in Kathmandu? are there many budget guest houses in it? Thanks!

Hi sam_he!
These are some of the most asked questions on this forum. If you type in a few keywords into the search engine you will find enough material to keep you reading for hours. Quick answers 1. You can take the EATS bus from the terminal. This drops you off on the Old Delhi side of New Delhi station so you will have to cross over all the railway tracks by the footbridge to the Paharganj side. This is the cheapest way to get to Paharganj. Less than an hour - not sure of the price. 2. A pre-paid taxi will cost about 200-250 Rupees - use the Delhi Police pre-paid service. If you have pre-booked a hotel in Paharganj, many of them do an airport pick up service. 3. Yes, Paharganj is like Thamel in Kathmandu. Not as big but there are many backpacker hotels and guest houses to choose from depending on your budget. Last edited by Alan D : Dec 29th, 2003 at 17:15. |

Hello sam_he,
I have never taken the bus. But for the taxi, after you go through customs there is 4 or 5 booths on the left. Go to the last booth as this is the cheapest pre-paid taxi. I was last in Delhi a year ago and the fare was Rs180. Tell the clerk and then the driver that you want to go to New Delhi station. This will save you from the "my friends hotel" . Tell the driver to stop outside the station as Paharganj is opposite. At the luggage carousel at the airport you can meet up with other travellers and share the taxi. Depending on the time of day and the traffic it will take between 20 and 60 minutes. |
