Another accomodation question....
Hi everyone,
I arrive in Delhi at the beginning of July and am looking for a hostel reccomendations. After diligantly reading my guidebooks, I've decided to arrange an airport pick up and would like a hostel that'll do this for me. I'm going to be alone for a few days, pending the arrival of my cousin, and would like to stay somewhere where I'm likely to meet other people, Indian or otherwise, to chat to. I'm young and enjoy areas where there's loads going on (Paharganj?), but also somewhere within striking distance of the National Museum. (I love museums and plan to spend a couple of days there at least.) I don't mind roughing it a little (shared bathroom fine), and don't really want to pay more than the equivalant of £6 a night (12USD). Thanks in advance to anyone who can help. |

Looking not at the individual postings in the hotels section (idea for a change?) but at the listings as such you can see when they were posted. All subjective views no doubt.

Yup, in '93, and in the Hara Rama opposite it then and in uhm '96 or thereabouts. Would be hard for me to say what they're like today of course. I think either or both are covered in the hotel listings. They used to be popular for low-budget accommodation and that's pretty much what they were, nothing fancy, ranging from windowless cell-like rooms to better, the Rama was a lot newer but I imagine Krishna may well have had an overhaul by now. Their rooftop restaurants used to be popular and were open to non-guests. It used to be you had to count each and every rupee with the staff at both places, meaning you had to take note of what you ordered and what the price was then watch your change and be prepared for arguments about "no change sir, pay now and change tomorrow" (the answer of course is no thank you I'll pay you when you have the change -- leaving you to make a mental note of what you owed them then argue over that later) and keep an eye on how many nights you had spent in view of double chargings. Other than that they were OK
If you look up either on the web I'm sure at least one of them has a site. The Rama's room 312 used to be a favorite of mine because of the little terrace with a tree but don't ask me if it's like that still.Paharganj is/used to be full of very similar places really, with some more upmarket ones too. Reading here it doesn't seem to have changed much. |
