The most famous places to see and visit in Amritsar are the Golden Temple, Jalianwala Baug, Wagah-Attari Border, Ram Baug and Ranjit Singh Museum and Panorama. There are other places like the Bazaar areas which are worth visiting for the food and shopping in the old bylanes of the city. There are lots of cheap places to stay in Amritsar and if you wish you can even stay inside the Golden Temple complex. Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Aadil.

There are trains that are more comfortable than the bus to get to Delhi. There are a lot of different buses available from Delhi which are run by private as well as the different state transport corporations. The bus terminal is one of the best I have seen in any part of India. I would rate it as #1 in India. It is the cleanest and best designed place in Amritsar, even better than the airport in Amritsar!!! The only problem is once you come out from the terminal you are in a different world which is very dirty and overcrowded. Hope you have a nice time in Amritsar. It was nice travelling around Punjab to places like Patiala, Ludhiana, Jallandhar, Sanghol (for the archaeological sites and museum) and of course Chandigarh.

Cheers,
Aadil.

If I could add my bit, were travelling up from Delhi on a overnight train sleeping on the train the train arrives in Amritsar before 6am giving us the whole day there to sight see before catching a train late evening again overnight back to Delhi were we then catch another train down to Kerala, with Indian trains anything seems possible.

Jeeez, are you gonna be stuffed. That's a lot of travel. Hope you're going sleeper, not a/c. Those long trips are really boring in a/c, imho.
Don't forget a packet of bickies to break the ice!!
