Hey, what can I say, I just got porcelain veneers and wanted to show them off.

[edit] I got an email back from Jyoti Deluxe, kindly warning me to avoid dodgy taxi drivers at the airport:

please make sure that no taxi driver at the airport
misguides u regarding the hitel, so please beware of
them and don't trust their misleading statement and
come directly to the hotel.

...so that's good. Actually I'll be staying at another hotel for the first night and they have confirmed their driver will have sufficient ID.

Hrmm.. I inquired and got the price down to 600 for a super deluxe double A/C, with a free pick-up .

I did find some negative reports on them:

Security Character Fun Location Staff Cleanliness
Added Dec 2 '03 40% 20% 20% 60% 20% 20%
Added Oct 20 '03 80% 20% 20% 40% 20% 20%
Added Apr 6 '03 40% 20% 20% 40% 60% 20%

So any more news would be very much appreciated

i will be in Karol bagh in two days, if somebody needs any info let me know. i did some hotel hunting for a friend two weeks ago and it was 1000-500 rupees for a AC double bed room with attached bathroom, TV, Cable, view. the rooms were pretty good for that price. i suppose lot of cheaper things are available but i was not looking for them, then

CP or cannought place is around 3 times the price of Karol B by thumb rule.

Paharganj is around 25% less but shady characters all around.

majnu ka tila is tibetan joint, nowhere from anywhere but cheap.

in karol bagh it is safe and you will save transportation costs.

i got digital camera and try to take photographs and load it up but no promises as even using a calculator is tough for me.

note always check the bathroom and tv in the hotel room

Well, if you have a moment, and you're in the neighbourhood, can you stop by the Jyoti Deluxe and take a look at a room for those of us considering them?

Cheers.

Check for the taxes also, they can charge as much as 22% on top. also the rates vary with the season.

i know the location, it is 3-4km from railway station and CPlace. it is in Karol Bagh market which is supposedly the biggest in india.

though the room photograph seems to be from a five star brouchure.

It sure does, and the same pic is featured on all the websites I visited, although i'll be very surprised if that's the room I get! In any caes, I'll be trying both it and another hotel for my first four days in India so will be reporting back on them both sometime in February.

Hmmmm

It looks like one has to be careful of some hotel websites. What you see may not actually be what you get!

I also notice the Jyoti Deluxe Hotel doesn't get rave reviews on fun and cleanliness and people didn't seem to be impressed with "the well mannered security guard".

This all makes our members reviews and photos in the Hotel Listings section of indiamike.com a lot more reliable.

Keep it up folks! If you find a hotel or guest house you are happy with please post the details, if possible with pics.

Master Paying Guest/Yatri

Hi there

Has anyone stayed in the Master Paying Guest House or Yatri.

I was thinking of booking a hotel in the Tibetan Colony (Wongdhen House) but it might be a bit too far out. My priorities are somewhere calm and clean.

Thanks

Elm

it's funny - i've contacted them via email and they offerred a double for 800rp. the advertised rate is 990. i just don't know if the place is a total dump or it's tolerable by indian standards.

Master Paying Guest House

Elm,

I live near the MPGH and have visited to see the premises and also when friends were staying there. Run by a couple, clean, quiet and calm in a nice residential area not far from CP but located away from the noise of the main road.

I personally would recommend it but beware it does get very booked up quickly as it is very popular.
