Smile 3 days in Delhi for an absolute beginner?

Arriving mid-day Friday from Hyderabad, leaving early Monday, both from the International Airport.

Can anyone suggest a good hotel location and some sites to see so I can experience Delhi in this short stay? $50 per night.

Would it be a good idea to go to Agra for a day?

On hotels, browse the hotel section here.

Agra, yes, if you want to see the Taj (don't forget Fatehpur Sikri and the fort)

Or, in Delhi

Half day or arrival: Delhi Haat. Sound and light show at Red fort (choose language, dont remember if English is everyday, else look at tomorrow)

Sat am, early: Lodhi Gardens, India Gate/Rajpath, Humayun's and Khan e khana's tomb at Nizamuddin (can skip the latter if time tight)

for the rest, browse the Delhi forum here, since I don't know your interests.

Thanks. My interests are architecture, gardens, people and food

People will be everywhere. And so will be the food.

Try the food stalls (from different States) at Dilli Haat.

As said earlier, Lodhi gardens. A drive down Rajpath for British architecture.

The red fort and Humayuns tomb for the moghul one.

Actually, you could steal away for a day to Agra too, for the architecture

I agree wholeheartedly with the Captain.
If the heat is getting you down after Lodi Gardens Khan Market is only a few blocks away for a cold drink or lunch break in one of the nice air-conditioned restaurants. There is also a restaurant in the park which I haven’t tried but it looks nice. Lodi Gardens is one of my favourite places in Delhi. The tombs and gardens are lovely, it is free and there are clean public toilets.
