2 days with Mum and teenagers

I am visiting Corbett and Ranthambhore at the end of May with my Mum (67 healthy and active) and two children (13 and 15). We will have 2-3 days in Delhi before and after these trips. I know it will be incredibly hot.
We are staying at the Ginger Hotel. Everyone wants to go shopping - I've read about Dilli Haat and FabIndia. My Mum would like some copies of some fairly simple cotton clothes made.
My children would like to see some places where 'cool' local teenagers would shop/eat.
We don't need to visit every sight but we're interested in Old Delhi. We know that walking in the heat will be difficult but we'd prefer to walk a little around interesting areas than visit lots of monuments. We all like photography.
I visited Delhi 20 years ago, the others have never been.
Does anyone have any suggestions of areas we might enjoy, places to shop etc.
Thanks very much.

welcome to Delhi

best way to see old delhi by bicycle rikshaw, in one rikshaw 2 persons @ 100 per hour from red fort to under the alleys of the chandnichowk by nai sarak. for the teenager second option to take a ride with guided tour by bicycle which he self operated @ 950/- per cycle.

You know ginger hotel is self service accomodation.

Dillihaat is sanitisd handicrafts buying experience.....

Since you are at Ginger, you may go to Fatehpuri Masjid area for watching Old Delhi Markets....

If your kids want to see, where Delhi Cool kids hang around, yo may visit any Barista/Cafe Coffee Day/McDonalds/Pizza Hut outlet in Connaught Place.....

Self Bicycle driving by a kid in the congested markets of Old Delhi may be dangerous.....

It'll be an overwhelming experience for him.....

If the kid has to pedal the bike....local guide will not be of much help in the street chaos of Old Delhi.....

A Rickshaw ride is better......

I second the cycle rickshaw tour option and advise against self-riding a bicycle in the crushing heat, especially if you're not used to Delhi traffic. Also, for the price quoted you can rent a cab for the entire day, 950 rupees will almost BUY you a bicycle here.

For 'cool' hangouts, check e.g. Bar Code in Basant Lok, a rickshaw from cp to there should cost about 90 rupees. Disclaimer: I'm not sure if Delhi cool is cool where you're coming from. Wandering around old Delhi will be an experience, not least in the olfactory sense of the word. If you're into traditional souvenirs and knickknacks, check out the central cottage industries emporium (but make sure this is actually the one that you walk into). Prices are fixed, a bit higher than average but quality (all things considered) is generally ok. 2 days for the tailoring will be close if you want good quality work despite assurances to the contrary. Most of all: enjoy!

Yes, and Rs 950 sounds way over the top, you could BUY a second hand bicycle for that, or hire a car and driver for eight hours for Rs 800 - only as a price comparison of course, you'd never get a car through those streets!

EDITED TO ADD: Crossposted with Dillichaat, obviously great minds think alike!

EDITED AGAIN TO ADD: If you really did want to hire bicycles, head to the Metro Station, the going rate under the DMRC scheme is only Rs 10 for four hours...

If those two kids are girls, the bicycle idea is a very bad one.

And Rs950 for a bicycle tour is excessive, as the others have already pointed out.

Thank you very much for all those quick and really interesting replies. The cycling sounds interesting but maybe a bit hot and challenging for a first trip?
I think my kids (by the way the 13 yr old is a girl and 15 yr old is a boy) are really interested in seeing the different sides of Delhi. Not so much sightseeing but more exploring (difficult I know in the heat)
We are starting and ending our trip in Delhi so hopefully would have time to order clothes at the beginning and pick up 10 days later?
We are quite adventurous and would usually just wander and see where we end up but I think the heat would make that challenging.
We would like to buy some fabrics and maybe some jewellery, nothing pricey though.
Thank you for all the suggestions.
