what is the best way to get to darjeeling....?

Hi everyone, we are about to embark on our 1st indian adventure at the start of July & we are considering heading to Darjeeling to escape some the heat. We have heard it is quite a gruelling trip from Delhi. Does anyone have any recommendations on how to get there? Is it better to fly to the nearest airport or to catch the train after we go to varanasi? Cheers

From Delhi the best way is to catch flight
Delhi - Bagdogra(Spice Jet,Kingfisher ,Indigo) has direct flight and cheap too ...http://www.ixigo.com to have an idea..
Bagdogra to Darjeeling you can go by Taxi..
Bagdogra and Siliguri(New Jalpaiguri) are nearby and in return you can catch train to Varanasi..their are India best train Rajdhani Express Available to Varanasi..

Train: Get an idea from erail.in and Book early from irctc.co.in ; these days holidays in India ; so rush..
Flight: Flights available at last moment too but if u book early you will get cheaper and some time cheaper than 3AC of Indian Railways..

Taking a flight to Bagdora is a good option and after that you could take a cab or enjoy the toy train ride. Toy train is slow but gives you the detailed view of the glorious mountains and the tea cultivation. The cabs are risky as well because it is moonsoon season.
