Smile Train routes to Darjeeling

Hi Folks.

Is it possible to travel by Rajdhani from Goa (via connection routes at least upto NJP)to Darjeeling? Can anyone please give me details on the possible train connections (Rajdhani preferred), the travelling time required and the approx. fares.
I also dont have much idea about compartment selection, as It is a honeymoon tour. I would prefer a cabin with privacy..Please advice.

Rajdhani connects only Delhi to different cities in India. So from Goa if you catch a Rajdhani it will go Delhi only.

Train 8048 from Madgaon (MAO) leaving at 08:00 and reaching Howrah (HWH) at 22:25 running only on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday

Then another train to New Jalpaguri Junction.

That's correct; but 22:25 the next day, mind.

See also http://erail.in?T=MAO::HWH: ; click on the train number there to get closer details. The only "private" four-and two-person cabins are in 1A; which this train doesn't seem to have. Cost for this stretch would be Rs. 502 in Sleeper Class to Rs. 1907 in 2A.

Travel time for this stretch alone would be 38.5 hours barring any delays, as already pointed out on your previous thread on it: Goa to Darjeeling.

For an idea of the different train classes, see also here: http://www.seat61.com/India.htm#classes. Note again however this train seems to offer just Sleeper Class and 3A and 2A.

Note again also that the 2431 provided by Luna above likewise arrives in Delhi the next day, so taking 29 hours. And note that Sealdah is in Kolkata, so after that you'd still need to get up to New Jalpaiguri & onwards to Darjeeling, as explained on the other thread. At the costs of Rajdhani travel, you might really want to consider flying to Bagdogra instead, as also said there; the costs would likely not be dissimilar.

You can do it via Rajdhani if you choose the travel dates carefully , however you will have to give a night halt at Delhi

Train 2431 Departs Madgaon at 12:30 on Wed, Fri and Sat and reaches Hazrat Nizamuddin (NZM) at 17:30 the next day.

Train 2424 departs NDLS (New Delhi) at 14:00 hrs on Mon, Tue,Wed, Fri and Sat and reached NJP (New Jalpaiguri) at 10:55 the next day.
On Thursday and Sunday Train 2436 departs NDLS at 09:30 and reaches NJP at 10:55 next day.

All are Rajdhanis.

Good finds, Wayfarer, gues you nailed it for the Rajdhani traveler

So now costs by Rajdhani, from Madgaon over Delhi to New Jalpaiguri, would appear to be Rs. 2035 + 1635 = 3670 in 3A, to Rs. 4370 + 3395 = 7765 in 1A (slightly more if taking the 2436). It would be interesting to know what flights Dabolim (Goa)-Bagdogra go for, by way of comparison. I tried at http://www.ixigo.com/ but no luck; could well be one would need to know the right dates and/or connection points.
