the waiting game of waitlists, and other worries!

Hi all,

I'm in Jodhpur at the moment, working my way east across India, to Varanasi to where I have a train up to NJP overnight on the 5th.
I have 2 tickets on the waitlist, Sleeper at 78, and 3AC at 10. Does anyone know the odds of these freeing up in the next week or so? No change since I booked them last night, so im getting a little worried. And is there any alternative?
Secondly,I then plan to get a bus to Keursong (sorry for the spelling) and catch the toy train up to Darjeeling, but with all this talk of strikes, will I be safe at this time?
Finally, I then plan to head out to Guwahati for a flight down to Calcutta on the 11th, is there any chance the strikes will effect this?
I really want to come up to the North East after loving Nepal, but as I fly home to England on the 12th I dont want to get stranded!

Last night. that's too early to see any changes, even minor as most activity of booking/cancellations by Indians happens during the day.

Post the train No., from, To, class and DOJ OR PNR no. for help.

Right, im leaving from Varanasi at 15:40 on the 5th on the 'Asr Dbrt Expres' to NJP arriving early on the 6th. My PNR is 2317198890 for the AC3 ticket and 2546261717 for the sleeper.
None have changed yet, and im starting to get a little worried..

It has been a few years since I travelled India but generally found when waitlisted things only really moved with gusto in the last few hours before departure.
I was once up at 200 on waitlist but not a problem so my advice would be not to worry yet.
Is this what other find?

You're doing something wrong somewhere, The Amritsar-Dibrugarh Express doesn't pass through Varanasi on the 5th of any of the next 3 months, or get to NJP on the 6th.

And because you've got virtually no chance of any of those waitlist numbers getting confirmed I thought I'd look for an alternative for you, that's when I noticed the train doesn't pass Varanasi on the 5th, so I checked both your PNR numbers to get the correct date, and both got the same response, 'PNR number not yet generated'.

Anyway, the reason you have so little chance of those PNR's getting confirmed is because there will be so few berths allocated to that sector, most berths will be kept for Amritsar/Delhi to Assam passengers.
