Question Tea estate stays? Kurseong-Darjeeling-Gangtok-Kalimpong

Hi there, have been lurking this site ever since planning the family trip from Delhi to the West Bengal/Sikkim. Very impressed with the PASSION this part of the world generates on this and other web forums.

Does anyone know of fun tea estate accomodation (besides Glenburn)?

I am thinking of starting off at Kurseong, from there take the train to Darjeeling, and then onto Gangtok. Come back via Kalimpong. Would be interested if anyone's done this before and how much time you budgeted, where you stayed. We will be flying in and out of Bagdora.

Thanks very much!

The only tea garden in Sikkim is at a place called Temi. It is a wonderfully peaceful place. There is a raj style bungalow here where you can have a real memorable stay. The supervisors in the tea processing plant are very eager to show you around so you can see how the green freshly plucked tea leaves are processed. They have a shop from where you can buy very good tea.

Do spend a quiet afternoon at the Hoshen Khola(water fall) near the St Marry's school. I dont know whether it is still a quiet place or whether the Khola is still flowing. In my school days Krsng was a very peaceful place & one of my uncles had a cottage from where we could see the Teesta. The saussages hams milkshakes of Keventers were heavenly but felt very sad when one traveller informed me that the standard of both Keventers & Glennery's have fallen.

temi tea estate

sadly, the temi tea estate was closed (holiday) when i passed through, so i couldn't have a tour, much less a stay. however, i could well imagine it as a perfect place for respite. the fields were lovely and lush, colorfully dotted with tea-pickers working and picnicking, and lined with rows of white prayer flags, making for some nice photo ops. (one of these days, i'll get around to posting a few pics!)
