Solo travellers and trekking in Darjeeling

I'm going to be heading up to Darjeeling in a few days time - maybe a bit later, depending on how long I end up staying in Kolkata. As my girlfriend is now back in the UK, I'm going to be travelling on my own, and was wondering what the deal would be with doing some light trekking in Darjeeling. I'm not looking for a five day expedition - more like a couple of days walking.

So how does the trekking work up there? Do you find your own guide and take it from there? Would probably rather go as part of a group - assume that brings the costs down, for a start, but also it would be good for the company. Any thoughts on how I'd sort it out?

You can go till Sandakphu in about a couple of days.
PM Babuchand-he has been there quite a few times and will be able to help you.
As far as i know you can do Sandakphu with a guide cum porter and that's not very expensive.

sandakphu...not in couple of days but in three days...2 day up and one day down.
