Hi..
Im planning a honeymoon trip to Darjeeling. Can anyone please guide me on how to go about my journey from Goa to Darjeeling by train, and how long will the travelling time be? I have plans of putting up at the Viceroy's. Any other suggestions on hotels for a 3/4 days stay with value for money? Thanx.. |

Oh, please... It will be a bloody long way is all I know, and as you could have figured out yourself.
That doesn't mean it can't be done, but the two just don't naturally go together very well. http://erail.in/ is kind enough to list both as stations even; it not very surprisingly suggests you should go over Howrah (Kolkata) from Margao to New Jalpaiguri. Time taken would be 38.5 hours (barring any delays, and just four days a week from Margao, or Madgaon as it's also known) to Kolkata + another 10-14 hours to NJP (I find a stunning 33 hours just for the latter ride even, but I'm sure that must be a mistake). Remember you'll then need to get up to Darjeeling still; another three hours by road I think, or something like seven by the famous but said to be excruciatingly slow toy train here. (I'm sorry; if you're from there, I understand the wish much better. If you're a foreign tourist looking at a map and thinking you can easily hop over from the one to the other, no, much less so. This is a continent pretty much the size of Western Europe you mean to traverse.) Looking into a flight to Bagdogra which is the airport that serves that region (it's really adjacent to New Jalpaiguri, which is really adjacent to Siliguri, and all of these serve as the entry point into either the Darjeeling or even the Sikkim region) and if you can afford it would be a good idea, really.

Dear if you are coming for your Honeymoon, then by the time you will reach Darjeeling you would have spent all your energy and days in train only.
Better option is catch a flight to Bagdogra Airport and then a taxi to Darjeeling. Hotel Shangrila Regency is a best choice for Honeymoon taking a deluxe suite on 3rd or 4th floor with awesome views and it will be much cheaper than a simple room in Viceroy. Quote:
