Delhi - Darjeeling Delhi ; 1 month
My boyfriend and I are heading off to India, Delhi, on monday. We've been thinking about taking the train to Darjeeling, but stopping in various citys on the way. Is it possible to make such a trip in 4 weeks? Has anyone done the same trip in the same lenght of time?

Would be more than possible, yes.
Logical and popular route would include Varanasi and Bodhgaya. That leaves you so much time that you could think about adding (any reasonable choice of, not all of them) Kolkata (perhaps sidestep to Sundarbans delta here; or see some of the West Bengal countryside en route to Darjeeling); Sikkim; perhaps a sidestep into Assam; maybe even a dash into Orissa; or, closer to Delhi: a spell into some nearby mountain areas up north from there; perhaps some cities to the south of it (Gwalior, Orchha and the likes); or the classic Golden Triangle, Agra and Jaipur, quite touristy though. Don't make the mistake of wanting to jam all that in, they are just some common and popular suggestions. Too many people make the mistake of wanting to cram half of India into a short trip. But in any case Delhi-Darjeeling & back in a month will be well-doable yes, with a number of sidesteps. A thing of concern right now however and I'm afraid is Darjeeling is going through some all-out strikes (known as "bandh"'s on the ground), and latest word here has it transport and possibly even accommodation in the wider area has pretty much come to a standstill. Such situations can come and go at short notice and so it may (or may not) resolve itself soon, but it's definitely something for you to keep an eye on, and it may presently just be impossible to visit. For recent reports on it here, see: Darjeeling Strikes . http://www.indiamike.com/india/darje...t-down-t85176/ . Note these reports would seem to indicate even travel between the plains and Sikkim may be currently severely hampered btw, if not just impossible.

Hi, thanks!
Actually, I'm in India now, my boyfriend and I ended up hiring a car with a driver for the first 14 days, then we're taking the train the last days. With driver: Delhi - Bikaner - Khuri - Jaisalmer - Jodhpur - Ranikhpur(if that's how you spell it) - Udaipur - Jaipur - Agra. By train|bus : Agra - Jhansi- bus directly to Kajhuraho - Satna -Varanasi - Delhi - Haridwar - Rishikesh(maybe) - Delhi I think we've jammed in as much possible for our 1 month trip we're now in Jodhpur! |

If you are in Delhi.. take train till NJP (New Jalpaiguri)from NJP it is advisable to take cab (sharing and/or hire the full cab) till Kurseong.. Enjoy Kurseong the land of white orchid.. early morning around 6.30 am take steam engine train till Darjeeling.. you will enjoy the ride.. crossing through green tea gardens, rivers, forest, small towns, village and so on... You will reach Darjeeling around 12 noon. Book a hotel.. stroll around mall in the evening.. early morning around 3am go to Tiger Hill (famous for sunrise).. walk down from Tiger Hill towards Darjeeling. enjoy Batasia War Memorial.. from there enjoy Kanchenjunga... and Tea Gardens.. and enjoy your afternoon in and around darjeeling..
