4day/3night trip to darjeeling-sikkim

Hi Friends

I am new to this forum and liked it while glancing through this site and got real good information.

My husband and I are planning a trip to darjeeling-sikkim for 3 days. We'll reach Bagdogra airport on 20th June at 1pm. And we have a flight back to Delhi on 23rd June, 1 pm.

I want your advise on planning my itinerary and have specific questions:

1. Can you help in planning day-wise places to visit. As in what should I visit on 20th (half day), 21st, 22nd, 23rd(half day).

2. I have got to know about Peling, Kalimpong, Lachung, Yumthang etc thru this forum - which ones should I include in my itinerary.

3. In this trip, I want to have a flavour of Tiger hills, 20-30 min trek, whitewater rafting, toy train ride as well, but may exclude based on your advise (so as to optmize, keeping into consideration that I have only 3 days to explore).

4. I would also like to know, whether I should pre-book with travel agents OR arrange for travel and stay when I visit there (may be bargain there). Which one will be cost-effective?

Guys, pls suggest.

sorry - title is misleading- i've got only 3 days to explore.

Dear Parul,
3 days is too short a period to be able to do justice to the entire stretch of Darjeeling and Sikkim. Anyway, my suggestion to you would be:
20th - Take a cab from Baghdogra airport to Darjeeling. Check into a hotel (I suggest Hotel Sonar Bangla) and move out for a 5 point trip.
21st - Take a taxi to Tiger Hills early morning and book the same for trips to Zoological Garden and Himalayan Mountaineering Institute later in the day. Move onto Gangtok during the latter half of the day. Check into a hotel.
22nd - Take a taxi for a 7 point sight-seeing or for Nathula Pass.
23rd - Start for Baghdogra by 8am so as to reach there by 12 noon.

You'll not be able to visit Yumthang Valley, Kalimpong, Karseong and Lachung. You may try to squeeze in Mirik, if possible, during your stay at Darjeeling. Toy train will not be advisable for want of time available with you.
