Question Why not Pakistan?

I'm always amazed at the lack of interest in Pakistan on this forum from foreign members (not Indians, as they seem most interested).

The amount of Pak-related questions pails in comparison to those asked about Nepal, Sri Lanka, and even Bangladesh lately. For a country with so many great attractions, and such great people, this seems to me a great shame.

I'd like to hear some of the factors that discourage people from visiting Pakistan.

conor, i asked the same question some time back, and the few responses basically indicated it was to do with pakistan being a country founded on religious lines.

I'd love to go, but have to admit that I'm a little scared, there are a lot of Muslim extremists in Pakistan and there is a fair amount of religious intolerance.

I'd rather wait till the worlds a little more stable.

Well frankly speaking I don't find any compelling reason to start a thread to ask people to start discussions regarding Pakistan. I mean if some one wanted to know some thing or wanted to discuss something with regards to Pakistan, wouldn't they just start a thread regarding it?

I can today in the similar fashion start a thread why isn't there are more people discussing motorcycle touring?

Instead of complaining regarding some thing like this, wouldn't I be better off trying to post a question or a thread that would actually stir up constructive conversation regarding the topic I am interested in?

According to this article, the govt of pakistan is trying to promote tourism: Prime Minister of Pakistan launches tourism plan for Americans...

I think one reason might be the name India has a lot more historical significance than pakistan -- which is onle about 50 years ago.

During partition, there was some contemplation between the leaders as to waht they should call their new countries. Mohammed Ali Jinna, the father of Pakistan, was confident that Indians would not continue to use "India" (actually the official name in Hindi is Bharat), as it was a name given by the foreigners, so he decided not to use it either. Interestingly, the word India comes from the nameof the river Indus which is currently located in Pakistan.

Talking Yikes?

Yikes? I say. I would have imagined that there would be a similar forum for Pakistan (and Ireland, or Eqypt etc). This is such a crazy question I am actually dumbfounded. There is a tinge of condesencion in the question as well.

"We are known more by the kind of questions we ask, than the answers we provide." a great quote I might add coined by yours truely...

Well except Ireland and Egypt don't border India DD.
I think it's a perfectly reasonable question, since we get a lot of stuff about Nepal, Sri Lanka and Tibet.

I know Conor and he certainly wasn't trying to be condecending!!

I'm ready to do the Sindh Interior - provided the coast is clear and I don't need an escort/ body guard. Ex-pat Paks in Toronto say I'm crazy even to consider that region .... so for the time being - that's why not!

I would assume that since this is "IndiaMike" rather than "PakistanMike" is the answer to your question. Also note that there's only incidental mention of Nepal,Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
Personally,I've visited Pakistan. The large cities -Lahore and Karachi are hellholes,Rawalpindi is civilised,Peshawar is fascinating.NWFP,Swat,Chitral-heavenly.It's the usual story-off the beaten track-superb,in the political/urban areas-dismal.
Unfortunately the political situation makes visits to the best areas of Pakistan possible for only the most determined.
Lastly if you want a Pakistan Travel forum try

Conor, I'm sure you started the thread in good faith but after all your travels you will be aware that there's some difficulties between India and Pakistan? The subject tends to spark unwarranted controversies on this board no matter what angle one takes it seems.

Terrorism (freedom struggle depending on which side of the border one is) and a fragile political situation where tensions can simmer easily.
But the reason to visit can be to visit the country of the recent best selling author of fiction competing with J .k . Rowling for magical concotions Mr Pervez musharaff and his magical In the line of fire.
