Hi, thanks for your interest. Please look at the following infrmation :
1. Chittagong : You will find many hotels within the range of Taka 400-1500/night. I will suggest you for Hotel Golden Inn, Station Road, Chittagong (Taka 800/night) or Hotel Safina, Jubilee Road, Chittagong (Taka 400-450/night. 2. Cox's bazar : Cox's Bazar is city of HOtels. Here the range is Taka 400-tak 5000. I can suggest : Hotel Sea Crown (taka 1000), Hotel Silver Shine (Taka 550), Hotel Urmi (Taka 500), Hotel Palonkee (Taka 500) For your calculation please note present exchange rate is 1 USD = 69 Bangladeshi Taka. If you need any more info, please feel free to ask. mahmud |

Some advice
Dear Mahmoud,
I've tried to reach you through the e-mail address you posted in the first page of this thread, but gmail returns my message. Is it any way I could get in touch with you? Perhaps another address? If you'd be so king, I'd like to get some information about an itinerary through Bangladesh, as I'll be traveling there next September. Thank you so much! |

Mahmoud, how was Bangladesh affected by this week's cyclone that did so much damage to Myanmar?

I didn't want to bring it up as it's not really on-topic to this site, but... terrible news about Myanmar, indeed. Appalling figures that are coming in.*
MarcB, why not discuss your itinerary requirements with Mahmud or others on this board? It's about public information after all, and it will be of interest to others. * I see now Shiver Me started a thread on it: Burma Cyclone News

machadinha, you're right. Here is the info I would like to share and
My name is Marc and I’m from Barcelona, Spain. My wife and I will be visiting Bangladesh next September, though we are only staying for 4 and a half days there as we plan next to go to India. I’ve been looking at information from Bangladesh and I surely will regret not to devote more days to this incredible country, but we don’t have much time and we need to go to India for business matters, so this time it will only be for a little bit more than 4 real days. We hope to visit again in the future and devote to Bangladesh much more time; I’m sure it deserves it. If you’d be so kind, I would like some advise... We arrive at Dhaka next September and we need to be in Calcutta 6 days later, by midday. I‘m afraid I haven’t done yet much research, but a preliminary plan could be: - 1st day: Arrive at 17.00 h. Dinner, evening stroll and rest. - 2nd day: visit Dhaka (full day) - 3rd day: “Rocket” trip Dhaka-Khulna - 4th day: side trip to Bagerhat and then head to the Sundarbans - 5th day: Sundarbans and then Khulna (or Jessore) - 6th day: leave Khulna (or Jessore) very early in the morning, cross the border in Benapole and arrive at Calcutta by midday. Do you think it is realistic? Or perhaps you can suggest a different itinerary? Besides, I don’t know if Benapole border is open or not and if the distance and transportation between Khulna and Calcutta makes it possible to do the trip in 4 or 5 hours. Perhaps you can help me with that too. Thank you very very much in advance. |

Hey Mahmud,
I will be in India and Nepal for a few months then will be going to Bangladesh in Nov. I have a Bangladeshi friend here in the states that will be over there at the same time. I haven't spoken with her at great length about the trip yet as it has only been recently planned, but we are meeting next week to talk about some of the details. I was wondering if you have spoken with many travelers about their malaria situation while they were visiting. Everything I've read says that malaria is there year round, all over the country except for Dhaka. I wont be taking medication regularly in India (except have some pills with me incase), but I wonder if its a "no brainer" for foreigners to take the medication there. Especially right after monsoon season. Thank your for any information you can provide! .adam. |

If you do you'll need urgent blood tests to diagnose it and urgent medical treatment, not some pills you happen to have with you. In most cases you'll find that that unidentified fever is just a case of the flu; you cannot self-diagnose and self-prescribe for this one. OK, OK, I know... you didn't ask... Just I heard a big warning bell when I read your words. If I got the wrong end of the stick, just ignore...

Thanks for the input. I've been reading about malaria on the forum and have an appointment next week with my doctor. I was recently in Thailand and Cambodia and never took the malaria pills I took with me as I heard more horror stories from taking them (some 1st and some 2nd hand account) than made me comfortable. It seems like a larger threat in India and Bangladesh so I just wanted to get informed on here as well as at my physicians. Thanks! |

Kolkata Calling
OK, I've searched and I've searched and 've searched, but seem to find no information. could someone out there please help.
I'm a British Woman (british passport) and was thinking of hopping over to Bangladesh for a new Indian Visa and a bit of sight-seeing, but how do I get a Bangladeshi visa in Kolkata. I'm in Sikkim at the moment and trying to figure out how long it will take in Kolkata to actually get a visa, so I can time the rest of my stay up here. Although I have a British passport and was born in the UK, my parents are of Pakistani origin. I mention this as it takes me a week to get an Indian visa as opposed to everyone elses sameday. Also how much does it cost? Thank you so much for any help anyone can give me. Umbreen

I think you asked for this on another thread recently? Never mind; I think the obvious answer is to get the visa sorted out at home before you leave is the wisest course of action.
If you can't, get it done there. Could take some time, yes, of course. * (ps Sorry, I see only now you're in Sikkim already. And maybe that other poster was someone else. I'd try and get it sorted in Kolkata yes. How much time -- no idea.) btw Where's Mahmud to answer MarcB? Busy, eh? |

If you are in Sikkim, you can think to take BD visa from Agartola (Tripuira). You also can get the Agartolta-Dhaka direct bus which will reduc your travel time (only 4 hours journey). It will take 2 days to get BD visa (Submit today, receive tomorrow) The visa fee for a British citizen is USD 65.
If you hve any question, please let me know. mahmud Quote:

Hi...wanted some info on getting to Comilla from Dhaka in December. How long would the journey be? We're looking at rail / road, and a good level of comfort on the journey.
Also, any info on staying facilities in Comilla would be welcome. |
