I've never climbed anything much more than a ladder, but sailors have to know about survival risks too.

Sufficient food
Food will be sufficient at the tea houses. Since it is closing season in November, all Tea Houses may not be open.

[quote=janetllc;462845]You may be confusing actual climbing expeditions, which bring their own supplies, with mere trekking, which often involved going from tea house to tea house and getting at least some meals and accommodations that way. Are you arranging this trek through a trekking company? A reputable one will have the food arrangements all worked out in advance.

Absolutely - you will need them for the snow and ice and I should imagine your trekking company should have supplied you with a list of essential items to take. As for sunglasses, good polaroid lens, wrap around type would be the most effective. Also, have you experienced high altitude climbing before? The company will take you slowly in stages, but I'm wondering if you have ever been up these heights, because some people can be adversely effected. Not to worry you, though, just a thought to take into consideration...

Then the trekking company will (or should) at least know which tea houses are still open when you plan to go, even if the cost of the food isn't included in the price of the trek. You should definitely plan to have sunglasses, preferably with polarizing lenses to cut the glare. Sunscreen is a good idea, too, because the UV light is stronger at higher altitudes. Your trekking company should be providing you with a list of clothing and other supplies you'll need to bring with you. Back on the subject of alcohol: alcohol is a bad idea not only because of the cold as several people have already pointed out, but also because consuming alcohol impairs your oxygen metabolism and also leads to dehydration, which are the last things you need at higher altitudes. |

Does it include Gokyo Lake in the itinerary? Food will cost you an average of 1000 NRP per day. Not counting cost of beer and bottled water etc. Just the food. . . |

Is this price per person or for the 2 of you? Also I guess you have proper boots etc. and proper thermals? You will more than the down jacket and the sleeping bag to keep you warm.

It's not thermal jackets, it's thermal underwear I'm talking about, Janet. I don't know prices to compare but it seems alright to me - someone who has done this trek might let you know. At the foot of this page there are four threads here on the Everest Base Camp trek, check those out if you haven't already done so.
Porters - these should all be part of your package, and yes, it is listed in it. You don't have to find them, the company is doing this for you. |
