What is the best way to get from Varanasi to Katmandu?

Namaste everyone, sort of in a dilema.

As the title asks...by bus??? by train?....if one of these pls give the times etc, especially to get to Katmandu pretty quickly, but in my research it seems like a two day journey.

I did it by train/bus in 1982. Things may have changed by now...no??? Probably not.

Thanks in advance

You can take direct flight to katmandu or go till Gorakpur by train then take bus from there to Katmandu.

Paul's travels bus... total trip takes 24 hours

Hi there. I've travelled with Paul's Travels bus (office near Railway Station or google for address). In 2006 it was 600 Indian rupees Varanasi/KTM inc one night at the very awful Nepal Guesthouse in Sonauli. The border guesthouses are amongst the worst in Nepal/India as you probably know. It's just one night but take lots of mozzie repellant. You could also get a train up to Gorakpur, a jeep to the border (120r's) then a bus up to KTM 350 nepali r's). Paul's bus leaves around 8am from Varanasi, border by around 5pm then second bus 7.30am arrives KTM around 4pm. Can't see how you could do the trip quicker unless you fly...expensive option! Have fun.

Hi Lyndy

Thx for that.

As there are 4 of us travelling, my wife & i, and our 2 teenage children, i guess it'll probably work out cheaper/quicker/more flexible etc by getting jeeps/taxis etc than getting 4 tickets for buses etc.

How about from Sanuali to Kathmandu, do you think it'll cost much more by taxi than by bus????

I reckon we can't get flights, everything booked up by now!!!

Whaddya think???
