Volunteer Teachers in Hindukush, Chitral,Pakistan
Salut mes amis,
Chitral, located in the far flung regions of Hindukush and Hinduraj mountain ranges and shaded by mighty Terichmir 7708 m, still lack in basic facilities of life and one of them's proper education, as this region remains cut off from the rest of Pakistan for, 4, 5 months round a year. As a matter of fact, being a backward area, it lacks in teachers, so every year when the passes're open (Lowari pass 3200 m from Peshawar, Shandoor pass 3800 m from Gilgit),travellers and tourists come and some of them stay there for while, teaching in the local schools, English, Mathematics or Scenice subjects, which yielded positive results for a couple of years. So there's still dire need of volunteer teachers in Chitral and if you're interested in, can email me. Je vous souhaite tres tres bon voyage, Imran Schah imranthesamana@hotmail.com Pakistan.. |

Interesting post and pics!
Hi Imran,
I have enjoyed looking at the amazing pic's of Pakistan, a country I have dreamt about visiting for years now... Just out of interest are women teachers accepted in the smaller villages you mention? I imagine so, but thought i'd ask. Thanks again for the pic's, they're beautiful. |

Bonjour Carolina,
Thanks for the appericiation but I'm still naiive. I've taken the pictures of kalash during the recent festival of Joshi in Kalash valleys and soon you'll be able to see them on my site. Pakistan's a beautiful country with its majestic mountains and lush green valleys, as well as historical, colorful cities. Absolutely, it's easier to accomodate female teachers in the families in the remote corners of Chitral and pretty beneficial for the students. There are oppertunities in the area if you're interested in? I welcome your queries, Imran Schah |

Namaste Imran,
How are you brother? I want to see your new lot of pics. Hearing about the conditions of common people makes me sad. Similar problems exist in India also in the remote areas. Lets everyone lend a friendly hand to Imran to tackle this situation as much as possible. Welcome again and regards, Bhaswaran |

I'd potentially love to do something like this.
I'm heading into India first to get my TEFL qualification then I may be doing some English teaching there for a 4 month period. I'm not quite sure which direction my travels are going to take me but I'm happy to see this thread. The region looks wonderful and I've never looked into or thought about the idea of Pakistan. I hope there is still such an opportunity if and when I get the chance. I will keep this post in mind. How much would expenses be while teaching there and for what period of time is one allowed to stay and teach? Thankyou Jon |
