Visiting India in summer

Hi Indian friends
I am so excited to visit India in late summer that is providing I get the visa in time. I am visiting for 3 or 4 days. I will be in New Delhi and around, I dont know anyone there, any suggestions what to do and where to go, eating out etc. I would love to meet Indian people and talk to them. Its a dream coming true.
Kind regards

Dont worry about the heat. I remember my first trip to India when I was 12 during the school summer holidays (that was when bottled water was a rarity in India). Had a fantastic time despite everyone giving me the old "its very hot in India during July and August" advice.

The heat did not really bother me. In fact I found the best time to go out was mid-day as most the locals had a midday siesta and the town used to be congestion free.

Just grab a few bottles of decent bottled water (not Aquafina) and do what you want.

It might be worth contacting a company like Namaste Tours before hand for the Delhi City Tour they do. It only costs around 800RS but is good value for money and you can do things in your own time rather than being part of an semi organised bus tour.

I enjoyed Humayuns Tomb. I found it a good alternative to the Taj Mahal and a lot less people. Plus I got in at the rate for locals which saved me a few RS as the rate for foreigners was rather extortionate in my view .

Lotus Temple was also interesting but a bit crowded on the day I went.

As far as eating out is concerned. If you like western fare there are more than enough places to eat including Pizza Hut, McDonalds etc etc. There are enough restaraunts and dhaba type places to try the local food, chinese food etc.
