Visa for Sri Lanka

Hi all

I know this is a forum for Indian visa but i dont know where else i can ask my question. At the moment im in india now for about 1.5 years. I deceided to stay my next 6 months in Sri Lanka. At least i wanna try for that.

Is it easy to get 6 months visa for Sri lanka? I wonder because there is a war there. And how to get a visa for Sri Lanka? I know that one gets a free 1 month visa from the airport in colombo. But how can we extend it?

My plan is to stay most of the time in buddhist meditation centers, to do some courses. Some one told me with a letter of the headmonk we can easily get a long visa. Does anyone has experience with this?

Thanks a lot

Belgian

Hi

Visa in srilanka is given on arrival. And, Srilankan tourist visa is for 2 monthly only.

May be you have to get in check with a local travel agency in Srilanka to see how you can extend your stay.

I went to Srilanka through Walker tours. Google for Walker tours, contact them, and they might be able to help you with some information.

You get a 30 day visa on arrival, you can then apply for a longer visa from the government when you get there, the only thing is you have to prove you have the money to support your stay. But Sri Lanka is not really the best place to visit at the moment with the pseudo civil war situation.

Most of the Srilankan govt links are not working here. Maybe it can work for you.Try googling Srilanka+ visa .I had read sometime back and am not sure if i remember it correctly ,but one can stay in Sri lanka for 2 months. You can get visa extension once in Lanka. That makes it 3 months , but Pls do note that this may differ from Nationality to Nationality.

Try this link, It was the only one that was working.

I found this on the Sri Lanka High commission website (london)

Quote:
visa will be endorsed on the passport for a period of 30 days on arrival at the port of entry in Sri Lanka. Tourist visa of 30 days endorsed at the port of entry will not be extended under any circumstances .Prior visas could be obtained by the bonafide tourists from the Sri Lanka High Commission in London for a maximum period up to 3 months

I am not sure what the exact amount of money is, but a credit card/foreign exchange receipts, hard cash, should do the job. The visa fee varies from nationality to nationality, it is only really expensive for Americans. Sorry I don't have the details...

Might find this of interest:http://www.immigration.gov.lk/html/visa/visit.html
VOA is 30 days. Have heard a rumor that extensions are going to be discouraged in future..

Hi Belgian

I visited Sri Lanka from Nov 05 til Jan 06 and extended my visa while I was there.

tourists are automatically issued with a months visa on arrival.
to extend your visa either do it in your own country before you go or do it at the office in bambalapitya district in colombo. if you do it in colombo, you should go early in the morning as applications are not accepted after 12.30 and it takes a while to do the processing. take exact fee in sri lankan rupees

However, people report that in practice you don't unless you look too "scruffy" (no warranties)..

Mmm Has anyone has experience with visit to sri lanka with one way ticket?

Thing is that i dont know how long i can stay there. I want to stay 4-6 months, but they maybe only allow for 2-3.

One more question, is it correct that air lanka has cheapest flights to Lanka? Some one else told me that iata has. Their websites are quite confusing...

Thx
