Visa for Indian spouse to join me in UK
Hey folks,
How is everyone!! Can't believe it's nearly Easter and I've been back in the UK for nearly 3 months already! The good news is I've just booked my ticket back to India in June to bring my beloved to the UK. The headache now of course is sorting his visa, so I turn to all you lovely people at India Mike for any hot tips. Nick, I guess you just got a visitors visa for your good lady but I am wanting a settlement visa for Rafi so I just wondered if anybody had any experience of this and in particular: - do I need to go the Indian Mission with my husband to apply for the visa (the website says not but Rafi's friends say I would speed things up). I'm hoping to post all the forms and suporting evidence out to Chennai and if they need to see him they can request an interview - if I have to be present, what are the chances of it being done during the 2 weeks I can get off work!!!! Any useful experience or advice much appreciated as ever P.S So good to be counting the days to my return to India again - shame we can't stay long this time but just as soon as we've saved enough dosh we'll be back for good (in about 2010 I reckon) love to one and all Katy

Send as much supporting documents as you can. Payslips, P60s, letters from work confirming you employment and wages, if you rent then your tenancy agreement, if you own then you house deeds or your annual mortgage statement, bank statements (with explanations for any large deposits). If you own a business then annual accounts, tax returns etc.
You do not need to go to the mission to apply. The whole process has been outsourced and they could not care less if you was with your wife or a 2ft midget dressed in a teletubbies outfit. Even for the interview you can go but the interviewing officer will not allow you to speak. He needs to sign the form before it goes to the visa place. If you need to be interviewed (very rare) then they can do the interview in the UK without the need for you to travel out to India. A few tips. Make sure your husband deposits all the supporting documents. The staff at the visa places are thick as $hit (and so are most the staff at the British High Commission) and they are known to tell people they do not need to deposit all the documents. If they do this then tell your husband to insist they take all his supporting documents. The officer will make a decision based on the documents that are submitted and appeals against decisions are also based on what information the officer had to hand. The other thing, tell your husband not to feel intimidated by the officers during an interview. They do this on purpose as many people fold under questioning and fail to answer them back. Remaining calm and collected is the key. Good luck and I hope all goes well for you. |

Cheers shere
Very helpful and reassuring (although I am the size of a midget and have been known to dress like a teletubbie!!) I'll let you know how he gets on with the officials .... |

Main thing is to show that you can support yourselves.
Without this I would advise you to go back to India..... Indeed,, we got a non-settlement visa. felt tempted to underline it with a big thick pen! Sushi reckons that she has has twice been given a visa to vist, with no problems at all just because she really does not want to come here! You got Rafi's passport sorted finally? Good luck! ![]() |

Hello, I am going to be applying for my husband to join me in uk soon and i am just going to start preparing papers soon to relay to india. I was wondering how long it will take after the papers have been submitted to get an interview date from the British embassy or is this the wrong site to be asking about things when it's the other way around? Does anyone know? Thanks

Hi,i would be extremely interested in knowing how your partners visa application went..(hope it was successful)..did you apply for a marriage visa or a fiance visa? i married my Indian husband last month and need to get his visa process rolling as quickly as possible as his family are being a nightmare!and trying to re-marry him to a good Hindu girl,he doesnt want to tell them about us for fear they will sabotage the possibility of him getting a visa by fabricating a criminal record or something along those lines..we had a Hindu marriage ceremony but have no marriage certificate,so were planning to re-marry in Goa in August and get a court marriage certificate with which to initiate his visa process, however i'm beginning to wonder whether it would be better to get a fiance visa and marry over here...I'ld rather do it there if possible, but needs must etc etc...if anyone could offer any advice i would be most grateful..

Spouse Visa for UK without any link for 6 years
Hi,
I am Joshita from Bangalore. My Husband is a British citizen (By birth in UK & Valid British Passport Holder) and is on stay visa. He has been raised in India and we got married around 6 years back. We are staying together for past 6 years. He has not gone to UK at any time during these 6 years & hence does not have any link with UK till date. And I have also not traveled there. Now we want to go UK and hence I want to apply for spouse visa. Can anyone please tell whether I would be eligible to apply for the spouse visa. And what is the process for applying the spouse visa. Thanks & Regards, Joshita |

It was seven years last time you asked!
Joshita, please do not post questions more than once, it against the site rules. Suggest that you study the British Border Agency website, and the site for British visas in India. There you will get correct eligibility information, and instructions on how to apply, and what is needed. |

Spouse Visa for UK without any link for 6 years
Hi Nick,
We are married about 6 years, 8 months. Hence wrote about 7 years in the previous post. I have gone through British Border Agency website, but I am not able to know our status. Since my husband is here for at least 6 years without any link to UK (No accomodation, No job there) can we still apply for Spouse Visa. Whether these will cause the impedance in the spouse visa issue. Regards, Joshita |

Sorry about the quibble
![]() Your answers, I think, are -->here In short (my bold): Quote:
You need to be able to show that he will be able to accommodate and financially support you. I don't know how this fits with "...without any link to UK (No accomodation, No job there", but then, for all I know, you may both be financially secure and independent; it might not be a problem at all; obviously the two of you have plans. Hope this points you in the right direction. Good luck ![]() |
