Visa for Bangladesh in India
This matter is regarding whether it's possible to receive a tourist visa for Bangladesh at their embassy in Calcutta.

The Bangladesh Embassy website isn't very clear as to where one should get a visa, or how long it takes, but since they do not say "visa upon arrival," I am assuming it has to be obtained before one gets to the border.

You can't get it by arrival so i assume you have to get it in Kolkata. edwardseco told me in my thread Visa for Bangladesh

I have read numerous comments from people who have obtained a B/desh visa in Kolkata.
Takes 3-5 days to complete and as long as you look respectable (they seem to be cautious about people who have a "hippy" look about them), you'll have no problems. Cheers Zoltan I should add one point to my comment above* - the one nation who cannot obtain B/desh visas are Israelis. For some reason, they are refused visas - no exceptions. With avid internet searchings (re current visa regs in India) about Bangladesh visas from Kolkata etc - I happened upon this site -
http://www.mayapur.com/main/?q=node/752 ...and the penny dropped - of course Bangladesh won't grant visas to Israeli nationals - it's a Muslim country! I wouldn't be surprised if Pakistan has the same limitations too. Same goes for Saudi (lived there 9 yrs) - even if you have any type of Israeli stamp in your passport, you can't get into, or back into Saudi if you visit Israel and get your passport stamped. This may well be true for Bangladesh too......don't want to put the wind up anyone, but it might pay to be cautious if you have Israeli visa stamps in your passport, whether you're a national or not. |
