I did it at the begining of the year (end of jan) and had to have $dollors!
I didn't need a copy of pastport.
I did the bus from Sanuli to katmandou which was around 200 nepali rupes and it took like,9hrs,(but that was while the shut down was running). So the LP sounds like its a bit out there

Dear 7 carlos,

Till a few years ago, there was a direct flight from Varanasi to Kathmandu, since withdrawn.

Now, you have to necessarily take a train from Varanasi to Gorakhpur and from there another train to "Sonauli" - the last point of India.

In Sonauli, you have to cross the International Border at which time, you have to prove your identity.

The first point in Nepal is called LUMBINI, the birthplace of Lord Buddha. From Lumbini, there is an 18-Seater Flight which takes 15 minutes to reach Kathmandu and the Fare is Rs.1000/- per head.

If you cannot afford Flight, then you will have Buses which ply almost round-the-clock which consume 12 Hours to cover the Lumbini-Kathmandu stretch.

Hope this information helps you.

29.72006/13.45 hrs.

PS: I never visited Kathmandu!!!!!
