Uttarakhand to Nepal: Banbassa or Sunauli?
Uttarakhand to Nepal: Banbassa or Sunauli?
Hiya
Does anyone have any experiences of such a trip? Id probably be in Josimath and want to head to Pokhara
From what ive read, time wise it wouldnt be a huge difference...it seems a toss-up between: Banbassa - shorter distance on bus (therefore slower), or Sunauli - longer distance 70% on train (therefore quicker)...
Im just thinking the Banbassa route might be more interesting, and scenic...though even in some kind of luxury tourist coach, i cant imagine it would be too comfortable...!
Also, ive heard stories that both crossings can be a right pain in the backside...again, any experiences would be recieved with interest...
many thanks

Check threads at the right hand side of your screen, and also use the search function, typing in Banbassa, and later on Mahendranagar (Nepali border town). You'll get many threads on that topic.
Specifically read this thread with info on procedures at Banbassa crossing and tricks played by Rickshaw wallahs
Delhi to Border Crossing at Banbasa
This my post on how to get from Gorakhpur to Sunauli and onwards. The crossing is easy at Sunauli, except for the congestion with lorries.
Gorakhpur to Lumbini and back

Hi
Most comfortable way to reach Nepal is to book a flight from Delhi for Kathmandu, and Kathmandu to Pokhara in 45 minutes by Buddha Air flight or 7-8 hours by bus via a very picturesque highway.
Pokhara is scenic, but Uttrakhand is also very scenic. Like views of Nanda Devi from Joshimath and Auli, you can also visit Badrinath for nice views of MT Neelkanth ,while in Joshimath
Thanks
