chaitany, welcome to indiamike.

Even though this is an India travel forum, my thoughts

- air fare, probably will be cheapest for you through Calcutta
-Hotels in both Bkk and Pattaya can range from very cheap to very expensive. I would budget 50-100 us dollars a day, but all depends on what you are looking for.
-Food, again, is as cheap or as expensive as you want it to be. Both places have everything starting from roadside stalls and small resteraunts upwards. Vegetarian food can be a bit of a problem, especially if you are a strict vegetarian. But manageable.

Roughly speaking, airfares aside, I suggest you budget as you would for a holiday within India- and add twenty percent or so for Thailand. The additional 20% may or may not be essential, but safer this way.

Indian resteraunts dunno. Have been to a couple in Bangkok but they were midrange and above, not cheap. I was told there are cheaper Indian resteraunt(s) near Indira Market, but never been there.

1) Airfare
From Kolkata to Bangkok, Air India Express has fares for about 5000 INR each way.

2) Fly to Bangkok, take the long distance bus directly from Bangkok airport to Pattaya (about 106 baht to 150 Baht). There are at least 4 buses each day (probably more).
http://www.yourpattaya.com/bangkok_a...to_pattaya.htm

3) In Pattaya, we stayed at a guesthouse on Jomtien beach for 350 baht (2008). Hotels start at around 500 baht. (See sawadee dot com or wego dot com).

4) In Pattaya, there is a nightly performance by transvestites (google Tiffany Show) for about 500 baht.

There are also many amusement parks - Siracha Tiger Park, Crocodile Farms, Mini-Siam, etc.

5) Near Pattaya, there is an island called Koh Sarn. Take a ferry (about 30 baht) and go there early morning if possible (before the tourists come). There is a lovely beach there and you can try para-sailing and banana boats there.

6) From Pattaya, take the bus to Bangkok. If you want cheap guesthouses, go to Khao San Road. Guesthouses there start at around 200 baht.

7) In Bangkok, visit the Grand Palace and Vimanmek Mansion.
I heard Wat Arun, Wat Po, Jim Thompson House and the National Museum are also nice, but I have not visited.

8) In Bangkok, take the Chao Praya ferry and enjoy the ride on the river (maximum 30 baht).

The Chao Phraya Express Boat company runs a Koh Kret tour on Sundays (about 300 baht) and also temple tours.

9) If you are in Bangkok on the weekend, go to Chatuchak weekend market (reachable on Skytrain). You can try many Thai food and snacks here.
We like to stroll in the "puppies market".

If you cannot go to Chatuchak market, there are several night markets.

10) If you are interested, go to China town,
not too far from the main railway station. Next to China town is little India (google Pahurat Little India)

11) Try a Thai massage.

Have fun !!!
