I am going to Thailand with my friends and have few questions:

1.Travel visa for Thailand is free if we are going for less than 7days?
2. My tour package has included only bangkok and pataya, so we want to visit Phuket by own please give detail for phuket like : transport for phuket from bangkok, places we can cover in one day, local english guide, hotel for one day.
3.Is it good to visit Thailand in October? if not whts the best time?
Thanks in Advance

I guess your journey is already over ... but still replies to your questions...

1.) No visa is not free... 1000 bhat or 1200 bhat for quick visa (i would suggest later one)
2.) i guess your package us 4 nights 5 days... that means your return tickets are already booked.. and if you try going to phuket from bangkok you will have to lot of travelling... so won't suggest that rather go Tiger temple, floating market and River Riva package which is around 1700 bhat...
3.)I went is june it was good... i assume october will get better...but please confirm from some other source,,,

1. Some time back Thailand Govt. exempted Indian citizens from paying any Visa Fee. But that facility is no more there . You have pay for your Visa to Thailand.
2. You can get Thai Visa in two different methods. One, you can get your Visa from Thai Consulate in India before you start your journey; and the other, you can get your Visa on reaching Bangkok at the Airport itself. This is called visa on arrival (VOA). Since you are going on conducted trip, it should not be your problem, the tour operator should take care of this.

Is your return journey date pre-fixed? Do you have any spare day for Phuket? If so, please note that there are excellent bus communication between Bangkok and Phuket, both overnight and day buses are available. An advise: don't buy your bus ticket from any agent. Go to Bus Stand (check from Hotel from where buses for Phuket starts) by Auto or by cab, buy the ticket yoursef from the counter, not from anywhere else. There are lot of scams on this front. You can go by night bus, on reaching Phuket in the early morning, go straight to Beach and book any one of the conducted trip and ask them to drop you at Bus stand again on conclusion of trip. They usually do this. You can catch any one of night bus and come back to Bangkok. This is the quickest way you can visit Phuket. But I warn you it will be damn tiring!

As some one once said "When hundreds of people got the Swine Flu everybody wanted to wear a mask. Millions are dying of AIDS and no one wants to wear a condom."
