Traveling from Thailand to India - advice please

Or how easy or advisable is it to travel FROM Burma TO India?

I would like to get to India from Thailand. I am in Thailand now and will be off to Myanmar soon (August 14 2006). I have been looking into continuing on to India but there are a lot of warnings about traveling in the North East of India

I am looking at 2 overland options and was wondering if anyone has any recommendations from experience of this route!

1, Travel from Rangoon/Yangon in Myanmar / Burma over land to Calcutta India
2. Travel from Rangoon Via Bangladesh over land to Calcutta India
3. Or should I just fly?

Any advice would be appreciated

I will also suggest to follow # 2 option. It will be easiest & cheapest. Fly Dhaka from Yangoon, then Kolkata by bus. Bangladesh Travel will be bonus for you.

FYR, Dhaka-Kolkata bus servic is very comfortable (10 hours journey). The fare is USD 10 (Air con Bus)

Hi Michael,

I'm pretty sure the border is closed - it's not possible to travel overland between India and Myanmar.
