travel through Iran/Pakistan?

Hi,
My friend and I are looking at going from Turkey to India overland through Iran and Pakistan. (Actually from western Europe, but from Turkey is where we're having problems.) We were told that this route was not advisable due to safety concerns. What are your thoughts?

How is the Indian/Pakistan border?

i dont know if i am allowed to suggest this here, but there is another travel forum where i have seen lots of guys discuss the overland trip you are planning. its possible, and worth the risk. needs very good homework though.

Hi, I did the trip in 2005, it's of course possible, and amazing.

The best thing about the trip is that you're eased into each new country, and each one is different than the last.

Indian-Pakistan border is not a problem, actually it's a bit of a spectacle, check out this video I shot at Wagah.

Cost wise, Turkey is on a par with eastern Europe, while Iran is cheaper (about €15-20 p/day). Pakistan is the cheapest, you can get by on less than €10 p/day if you like.

I'd recommend you get your Iranian and Pak visas in advance if possible, it'll make things so much easier for you, as places like Tehran aren't great for hanging around, and embassies change their rules constantly.

Any more info, just post to this thread.
