travel insurance for India and Pakistan
Hi folks.
I'm not too sure if my question fits in with this thread - so here goes. I am flying into Pakistan late Sept for 5 days then crossing the border into India for 2 months. Just as I was about to purchase travel insurance with Columbus Insurance here in Australia (which I have used before), I find out the their policies DO NOT cover anyone who travels to countries where the Australian government has advised "against travel" or to "reconsider travel plans" and this criteria covers all of Pakistan !! This means obviously that I will have no insurance when I am in Pakistan if I go with Columbus - which worries me a bit. What insurance companies do travelers normally use for travel to Pakistan and India ? I was thinking of World Nomads. Does anyone have expereice of this or another insurance company ? Are they any good etc ? Any advise or assistance would be much appreciated. Philip |

Hi! I used World Nomads in 2005 when I visited Pakistan. They had no problems with Pakistan back then, but obviously the situation today is drastically different to those (relatively) peaceful days.
As far as the company itself goes, most travellers who use it seem to have generally positive things to say. My own experience was mixed - I had 2 claims, one a dental emergency which they compensated for straight away, the other a stolen camera, for which the claim took nearly 10 month to complete, after some angry e-mail exchanges. But looking back, I can see why the camera claim took longer. Anyway, I'm planning on using World Nomads again for the next trip, since they're user friendly for travellers. Hope this helps. |

I made a claim throuh WorldNomads for illness in India. They approved payment fairly quickly. Only problem was that the papers to approve payment to the health provider where sent to my Australia address, so it was 5 months till I could sign them.

Do you really have to go to Pakistan? If at all possible, reconsider. Things don't look great there right now. Good luck and cheers, |
