Travel from Sonauli to Varanasi

I desire to travel from Katmandu to Varanasi via air in June 2006; however, the only airline offering direct flight (Cosmic Airways) has financial problems and stopped this service. Instead I was told to fly from Katmandu to Bhairawa in the morning and then take a car from there to Varanasi. What is the overall time projected on a private car taxi from Bahirawa to Varanasi? I have limited time in Varanasi and desire to get their quickest. I read number of forum listings; however, it is not clear how many hours expected if I hire private car taxi to get to Varanasi. Thanks for your help.

I travelled from Varanasi to Sonauli Border more than 15 years back by local bus & it took 10 hrs (apprx) . Jeep/ private car will definately take less time. For more recent news :-
